  1. Missed that. Yup, should be 44.
  2. He's right about your front being a Dana 30. Are you sure the rear is a 44? Dana 35 was a too common rear axle. 4.56s are a bit much for only 31s, although it's quite costly to re-gear. Your truck would have had 3.07 gearing from the factory. Numerically higher ratio = low gearing
  3. So you can play Portal now, right?
  4. I'll see if the CEL comes back on or not. It's been shifting normally, and locking normally, so I doubt it's got anything to do with the TPS. It's got its power back too since I cleared the code. :dunno:
  5. Just got back from Oreilly's, they let me take a scanner outside and hook it up. Didn't give me any numbers, but said "Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Malfunction", which I didn't get, because the converter's been locking and unlocking just fine. I cleared the code, and it didn't come back on on the way home.
  6. No Habor Freights near me(not that I know of, anyway) I pass one in Madison on the WI/MO trip.. I called O'reillys, and they said that they don't do the scan... but they give me the scanner and show me how to use it. Dunno if that's just a lend in the parking lot thing, deposit lending, or if that means I buy one there. Rob, why don't you bring that $700 fancy piece of machinery down here and leave me alone with it for a few hours? :brows:
  7. Is the clutch making any weird noises? Do you know how to do a push start?
  8. How does this trick work? I turned the key on and off 3 times, but it didn't do anything. I'll give O'reillys a call and see if they'll scan for free. Closest autozone is 45 minutes away.
  9. Check engine light came on in the 99 XJ today, about 10 miles before I got home. I stopped at the only shop I know of on the way, but they were closed. Temp, Volt, and Oil pressure gauges all read fine. It did seem to lose a bit of power when it came on though, although not enough to cause a problem. Is there any kind of jumping trick I can do to get it to throw me a dash code, or do I need a scanner?
  10. You'll need to swap the brakes over, so it's a good time to get new brake cylinders. You may have driveshaft problems, as the yoke on the 8.25 is a bit further forward than the D35. Obviously you'll need new U-bolts for the 8.25. I believe your spring plates will be fine.
  11. HOLY FREAKING PRETTY  Transmission is the shotty Peugoet BA 10/5. T-case is an NP231. Front axle is a Dana 30, rear is a Dana 35.
  12. ZJ is 93-98 Grand Cherokee WJ is 99-04 Grand Cherokee
  13. I have a factory tape deck out of a 91 XJ that has half the display out, but it still works.
  14. Some of the avatars are.. that's the only thing that should affect bandwidth. Maybe we just type waaaaaay too much.
  15. Maybe we're not active enough for the new internet standards.
  16. The older 84-90 lower ball joints have a collar that threads into the lower part of the knuckle, that you have to set the height on. In 91 they were able to eliminate that. There are a ton of brake generational differences, but as long as you stay in the same year, you'll be fine. The difference I've seen in the draglink is the size of the threads for the TRE. I put an 88ish D30 on one of my 91s, and since I hate dealing with balljoints, I thought I'd just undo the collar, and switch it over that way. Nope. Different sizes, so I had to switch the TRE anyway. What all comes in the kit? What all do you need to replace? RockAuto has fairly cheap balljoints.
  17. Same size.
  18. Ask the seller for a pic.

  22. The ends that go in the frame have pins, that sit inside slots in the frame. No bolts or anything in the way, when you get the tank out of the way, you can turn and remove them.
  23. Good to know. I definitely remember reading at one point that an 01 didn't have the tapped hole, so it must be with the 0331.
  24. One issue I can think of, however(and I'm not sure on years), is that the 97 motor may not have the tapped hole in the back of the head for the gauge temp sender.
