ring and pinion gear, shim kit, bearing needed
Geonovast replied to STERLING STINGER's topic in Wanted
Why would you need to remove them to count the teeth? Believe it or not, they turn. If they're original gears, the tooth counts should also be stamped on the ring somewhere. -
An 88 will actually have three if it has an original aux fan. One in the back of the head for the light/gauge. One on the bottom/middle-ish driver's side of the block for the ECU. One in the radiator for the fan.
-
Probably. Should have nice gearing in the axles too.
-
Everything in the front should be compatible. Nothing in the rear will be.

Guage swap - temp sending unit question
Geonovast replied to TonyTiger113's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The one they gave you is for 92+. You need the one for 84-91. -
Another OE sensor. Although, really, if it's overheating when you're not pushing the engine and the AC isn't on, you have other issues and a fan running all the time would just be a bandaid.
-
Replace the fan sensor in the radiator.

Uhm. Puke. At least it looks better than the Honda Element or the Kia Soul

In comfort mode, the trans will shift earlier, and take a little bit longer to make the shift. It's supposed to provide a "smoother" ride. I've only had one Jeep with that switch, and I left it in power all the time. Most of us that had them have noticed better MPGs with it in power, and it's also supposed to be better for the trans. They ended up hardwiring them all to power starting in 91.

Wait, are you wanting to know if they'll swap to another year in that range, or if the front ones will fit in the back and vice versa?

You shouldn't have to replace the whole column... just replace the cylinder... -
87 4.0 upgrades - questions on transfer case/tranny
Geonovast replied to ClemXP's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The clocking is in the trans, not the T-case. -
I'm here. I don't like it.
-
No. It must have a tank from something else in it.
-
No way an XJ tank fit in there. All MJ tanks are side mount and should be accessible. Personally, I will never pull a pump without dropping the tank again, unless it's pretty full. I know you can get the sender out and back in without dropping the tank, but it's a PITA to get it lined up correctly and not have it leak with the tank in the truck.

ring and pinion gear, shim kit, bearing needed

he is saying that my axle is non c-clip and is a better axle than what you have now. and to just buy mine and fix mine rather than fix yours. he is also saying that my r&p will swap over to your axle. and you can't go wrong buying mine for $25. :D you could use the 2 axles to make 1 good one. btw did you go to harrys? you can ship this to me for $50? dude go to the damn library and use the computer. he could ship just the r&p for $25 if he want to mess with it. but he offered the whole axle to you for $25 and you can just take a drive and pick it up and use that axle and your axle and make one good stronger axle. Just remember that putting in a used R&P still requires a gear setup, and is a bad idea. You cannot just throw them in and call it good. -

The 3.55 vs 3.54 is moot. The actual ratios are the same. 3.55 vs 3.54 are just how people like to round. The D35 has 39 teeth on the ring and 11 on the pinion. 39 divided by 11 comes out to 3.5454545454545454545454545454......, which is properly rounded up to 3.55, but is also referred to as 3.54. The only exact ratio in our axles is 4.10, because the D30/D35/Chry 8.25 have 41 on the ring, 10 on the pinion. -
MJ U-bolt plates ARE the shock mounts. Cut off the XJ shock mounts and forget them. Its is very necessary to move the perches. Not only are XJs SOA while MJs are SUA, they are not at the same width. Putting an XJ axle on with the perches in the XJ position can damage your springs, shackles, and put your life in danger.

Same U-joint.

Didn't do well in HS, because I didn't care. Graduated with around a 2.87. Currently enrolled at ITT Tech for an Associates Degree in Computer Electronics. Doing quite well too. Now is a really good time to go to school, doesn't matter how dirt poor you are.
-
I paid less than that for a complete(except drums) 29 spline Chrysler 8.25 with 3.55. If you're not paying much for a gear setup, then it probably isn't getting done correctly, and you're just gonna end up burning up another set of gears. The D35 is NOT worth it.
-
He's willing to do a gear setup, but not swap you to a 44? Sounds fishy to me, like he doesn't know how to do a gear setup, and thinks he can just throw in new gears.
-
You'd need a slightly shorter rear driveshaft. Pretty much it. Obviously you'd need the D44 U-bolts, but those should be replaced with any axle swap, so not a big deal. Brakes will need to be bled, but that's also happening anyway. Why aren't you installing it?
