  1. I know you never mentioned 97+, in fact you failed to mention anything about the year at all. Indeed I did  My bad. :wall: I'll do better next time. :dunce:
  2. It settles down to around to about 55-60 when it's running. I'm gonna do an oil change in the next few days. I have a feeling there's too much oil in it.
  3. I believe so, but there were differences over the years. I don't know the cutoffs offhand, but I know 86 is different than 87, and my 94 231 was different than my 91.
  4. M'kay... pretending I can remember how a multimeter works I'll check those out, and take a look at the connections on the switch. TCU is under the dash by the ECU, correct? I've (basically)owned 8 XJs and 3 MJs, but this is my first Automatic.
  5. That's for the speedometer gear/sensor.
  6. Something tells me the reserve is a couple bucks higher than $200..
  7. I'm lost... I never mentioned a 97+ Donor is a 92. But it has some stupid decals on the side and the grey laredo trim isn't on it. But given that this is a little more difficult than I really feel like doing right now I may just switch the door anyway.
  8. :dunno: I was wondering that too. You'd think he'd at least say what motor it had. All that money in there and he's still got the stupid lookin steeringwheel.
  9. Different, like everybody else. See, lots of people have done front leaf suspension. You should just do NO suspension, weld the front end to the frame. That'll be different. :agree: But, you know, I'm sure he wouldn't be the first one to do that.
  10. To answer your second question: No, you cannot bolt a T-case up to a 2wd trans output shaft. You'll need a 4wd transmission.
  11. Hmm.. I didn't look at your location. So it's $450 CAD? What's that, like $380 USD? That's a little better.. lol
  12. He can always get the 29 spline stuff for it later. And this 8.25 already comes with spare shafts. IMO, both axles are too expensive. $450 is about what I'd expect to pay for a D44 with a locker. I've seen 4.10 D44s go for ~$300
  13. A good way to see what's loose is jack up the axle enough to get both tires on the ground, and have someone turn the wheel while you watch for any slop.
  14. There's 4 bolts holding the bracket to the frame. Two go in through the side behind the spring, and the other two go up from the bottom. First time I replaced one of those brackets I used three original bolts and a new one, but I didn't get a lock washer for the non-flanged bolt and it worked loose, causing DW. I'd make sure they're tight. Oh, and they should be 18 mm.
  15. From what you've described it makes me thing you're talking the front doors... Is it the same for the rear doors?
  16. You can drive it to the extend of moving it around the driveway, yard, etc. I wouldn't take it over 20 mph. If it's just the bushing on the axle side, you should be able to replace it. If the TRE on the frame side has any play in it whatsoever, you're going to want to replace the entire trackbar. IIRC most aftermarket adjustable ones will run you about the same price as a stock one. Adjustable one=replaceable TRE so you shouldn't need to replace the bar again unless you bend it.
  17. I know XJ questions are supposed to be in the pub but symptoms and fix would be the same if it was an MJ. 88 XJ 4.0 AW-4. Just grabbed her yesterday, runs fine for the most part except a choppy idle (90% sure it's the old gas) and it doesn't stay in 3rd very long. Even if I'm flooring it, it's in 4th by 40 mph. It stays in 3rd for not even 2 seconds. It'll downshift if I'm slowing down. If I put it in 3rd manually, it works fine and stays there. Any ideas of something I should check? Or should I just give it time and see if working the old gas out changes anything. Oh, and PO had tranny switch on comfort. I switched it to power and no difference.
  18. Anyone have a write-up on how to remove and install the small window on a rear XJ door? XJ i just got had one smashed out and I have a good door for the window donor, I'd switch the doors but the trim package isn't the same.
  19. Bought them a playmate.. And older playmate. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
  20. Factory ZJ rear coils will drop the front 1.5-2 inches.
  21. Picked up an XJ for the GF today. :D Floors are solid, manageable rust, a little TLC and she'll be a decent Missouri-tripper/kid hauler. 88 4.0 AW4/231. $400 Needs a febreeze job, valve cover gasket, IAC(maybe) and blowby fixed. 206k, but she runs great and at startup Oil Pressure reads about 70. Brand new tires and a Full size spare on a matching 10 spoke rim.

    It's official

Like the new Jeeps were worth much anyway. :dunno: From the Compass/Patriot to the 4 door JK, to the monstrosity of the WK, which they promised they wouldn't make the WJ any bigger, they haven't been impressing me over the last couple years.
  23. Your big gauge had a warning light? I've never seen one like that.
  24. I don't feel bad about any rigging I have ever done ever anymore.
