  1. Won't engage? So it's acting like you have the clutch pushed in all the time? Or do you mean the pedal won't go down?
  2. Go look through the projects section. There's at least 3 in there.
  3. Good to hear it worked out for ya  I strongly suggest that if you have problems with it again, you replace everything in there. And yes, you're right. There is literally no way to distinguish between and AX-4 and an AX-5 without moving the shifter. :rotfl2:
  4. The 229 should bolt up just fine. Yes it was an option. Beaterjeep's 86 has it as well.
  5. whered you get that from? Motion Offroad sells them.
  6. Maybe they're METRIC!! OooooOOOOooOOOoooooOOoOooOOOOooo(scary ghost sound)
  7. I wouldn't hesitate if the body was decent.
  8. I refuse to use SP2. I can't imagine SP3 being decent.
  9. I've wanted those since before I could drive.
  10. Personally, I would get the full clutch kit for it. That way you completely rule out bad fingers on the PP and you shouldn't have to pull it apart again.
  11. Either way, the transmission has to come out. The pilot bearing is probably the easiest fix of the ones he listed, however.
  12. Wouldn't doing that screw up pinion angle pretty bad?
  13. Yes you will need the manual pedal setup. There is no cable, It's all hydraulic. You may have to drill the hole in the firewall for the master cylinder. Flex plates and flywheels are not the same thing.. but they go in the same place. Flex plates are for automatics, Flywheels are for standards. Best option is to have a donor vehicle. Grab everything related to the transmission, including the T-case mated to it, and the front driveshaft. You'll have to have yours either cut down or re-tubed if you can't find one.
  14. Regardless of how you tackle this, I strongly recommend testing the clutch setup before you put the tranny back in. This is yet another reason why externals slaves rock and internals don't. 1. Remove the bellhousing from the transmission. 2. Using the alignment tool, bolt the clutch and PP to the flywheel. 3. Keeping the throwout arm and bearing inside the bellhousing, bolt the bellhousing to the motor. 4. Attach slave cylinder. 5. Put the clutch alignment tool inside the clutch plate. You shouldn't be able to turn it. 6. Have someone inside the vehicle push in the clutch. You should be able to turn the clutch with the alignment tool. If this doesn't work, DON'T PUT THE TRANS BACK IN. Having the actual transmission in there will not change anything.
  15. You shouldn't need to splice anything. Your 88 pump should work fine. I believe that the 97 system doesn't use a return line. That may be something you'll have to deal with. And yes, you'll need an elusive 91-92 MJ sending unit for your gauge to read correctly.
  16. What years are we talking? I think the Renix and HO converters are different, but the input shafts on all of them should be the same. All the 2wd outputs should be the same, too.
  17. All 4 bulbs in front should be singles. I think. I don't think having duals in there would hurt anything, though.
  18. From what I know, all the input shaft spline counts for the Torque converter are the same. Generally when spline count is referred, it's for output to the T-case or, in 2wd cases, the driveshaft. At some point around 1990 the output on the 4wd ones changed from 21 to 23, but I don't know about the 2wd ones. I know my 91 2wd AX-4 has a 21 spline output.
  19. 2.5 and 2.8 use the same bellhousing. A flywheel would be the hard-to-come-by aspect of it. I know the 2.5 and 2.8 don't use the same flywheel, but I don't know what other vehicles with a 2.8 he could yank a flywheel from.
  20. Your front will be a Dana 30.
  21. Make sure you stop-drill the crack and probably seam-weld it before doing the plating. In case you weren't planning to already.
  22. You won't need to cut a hole in the tunnel. The hole should be there, just with a plate over it. You can get an AX-4 or AX-5 from any year XJ/MJ/YJ/TJ. You'll probably want to find a newer one already mated to a NP231 T-case. The only problem you should have is finding a flywheel for your motor. Another issue you may have is driveshaft lengths. I don't know how long the TF 904 is. You may need to research that and see what the difference is between that and an AX-4/5.
  23. Does it have the little plastic cap on the end of the pushrod for the slave?

    My first MJ

    I already have one :brows:

    My first MJ

She looks nice and clean. You sure it's got an AX-15? 88s came from the factory with a BA 10/5.
