Is it a plastic or metal shield? The plastic shields are easy to remove- simply snap off the 4 little bolts holding it on and throw it away. The straps are a little different, since the nuts you need to remove are too far up the stud for any socket to reach, and it's too close to the strap to really get a box end wrench on. That basically leaves breaking loose a nut that's got 17+ years of rust on it with an open ended wrench. You could cut the studs down (sawzall, NOT fire!), get the nuts off with a socket, and then get some new hangers.

I think that's why you like it. It's why I do.

You cannot retain the MJ cluster. ALL the dash wiring will need to be moved over from the 91 donor, so you have to use the 91 cluster. I'm assuming you want to keep the 90 cluster because it's a full cluster? You'll need to find a 91-96 Full cluster in order to keep that.

IFS Dodge & Ferd. :smart: (some of the Ranger guys even swap IFS 35's in as an upgrade. :dunno: ) Wow, if the 35 is an upgrade, what the HELL was in there before?

3.07 :ack:

It might bolt in... but TB spacers are pretty much useless unless you have a plethora of other performance parts, and even then I couldn't justify the cost.
-
You can grab discs off a ZJ D44.
-
Nope, but the perches on the MJ are spacer farther apart, so an XJ axle won't bolt straight on for an SOA lift.
-
Your front will be a Dana 30. No such thing as a front Dana 35. Most likely you have a Dana 35 for your rear axle. Next most likely is a Dana 44. The Chrysler 8.25 isn't uncommon choice for a swap, since it was factory in XJs and therefore the same width.

He'll need to change the pump. He's going from 1 injector to 6.
-
You need to move EVERYTHING. Is your MJ a 4 speed or a 5 speed? And with you referring to SOA, a XJ axle will not bolt directly onto an MJ as SOA. The distance between the perches is also different between XJs and MJs. If your MJ is a 4 speed, chances are pretty good it's got 3.55 gearing, which is what the XJ should have. You will need to get your rear driveshaft cut down. But for the wiring, you need to move everything in the engine bay and dash. Basically strip the MJ to bare bones, and move everything over from the XJ.

A tag fell off the D35 on the XJ, completely illegible, so I went out and checked for a trac-lok. If it has it, it's completely dead.

bought another, need front lift advice

Nothing is for sure. For all you know someone swapped in replacement axles and either; 1:used something stupid like 3.07s, or 2: mixed ratios. If you're getting axles from a yard or getting a donor vehicle, you should really check the ratio. You can do this without pulling the cover, but you need a jack to pop a wheel up off the ground, and turn the D.S. by hand and count how many rotations it takes to turn the wheel once. I can't remember if it's double or half the ratio. -
Need help with 4 cylinder running rich
Geonovast replied to pitbull4x4's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Maybe. Replace the O2 sensor first. That's usually the cause of it running rich. -
A 3.4 swap is much more feasible. The 4.3, while being a V6, is a 90 degree V6 and uses the SBC bellhousing bolt pattern. A 3.4 is the same block as the 2.8, gives adequate power, and will bolt up the most of your original swap. While it's possible to drop a 4.3 into an MJ with GM 4.3 stuff, it's just as much work as a 350, so you might as well do the 350.

Comanche Fires Up Then Dies
Geonovast replied to cromanyak's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
There's a porcelain piece on the inside of the driver's fender with two wires going to it. It's what supplies power to the fuel pump after start up. You can jump the wires to test it, but it's a good idea to replace it if it's bad. -
I've heard rumors of factory dullys, but never seen anything to back it up. I bet that one's home-grown. Looks nice though.

CL isn't nearly as user-oriented as something like eBay. You don't have to have a user name or account to post. Everything I do on there is anonymous. They'd have no way of calling him out, unless the check every post and somehow find out it's him. They even have proxy email accounts, so a potential buyer doesn't get your actual email unless you decide to reply. CL is really very safe, people are just stupid with it and that's why it gets nothing but bad press.

Yup, that's the beauty of used cars. The second he signs the bill of sale and hands over the money, the wheels could literally fall off 5 feet from your driveway and it's HIS problem.

Seats are not a direct fit, but can be put in with minor modifications. XJ and MJ roofs and floors are different. -

Depends on how big tire you're running and if it'll see street time. For an off road only rig, the lowest you can go is usually best. -
cherokee parts to a comanche
Geonovast replied to buddy208's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The good part is the list of what won't swap is shorter than what will. Generally speaking, everything in the engine bay and front suspension is all the same, provided you're in the same year range. ALL front axles are interchangeable, with minor differences that aren't a problem. Engine bays are the same, front clip is the same, hood is the same. We'll be able to tell you for sure if you tell us what part you're talking about specifically.
