Take the bulb out and forget it was ever there. You don't really need a light telling you that you're in 4wd, do ya? :dunno:

You should be able to grab one off any 84-96 XJ.

recomdend engine swaps for 2.5l mj
Geonovast replied to muddymj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
3.4 is an ideal swap for upgrading from a 2.8, since it's the same block and already set up for a V6. If you're looking for ease, simply replacing the 2.5 would be your best bet. If you don't mind doing a little bit of fab work and wiring, a 3.4 would be good though. The 2.5 uses the same bellhousing bolt pattern as the 2.8 and 3.4, so you should be able to retain your transmission and driveshafts. -
1989 Renix Comanche What Cylinder heads do I have?
Geonovast replied to ocean's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
No, the ports on the HO heads are higher up and shaped differently than those on the Renix 4.0L. It is possible to force-fit an HO head and still use the Renix manifolds, but it's not a bolt-on replacement. To keep it simple, the Renix years were 1987 through 1990. A head in that range should bolt right up. We're talking about a 4 cylinder. AFAIK, most of the heads of the 2.5s are interchangeable. It'd still be a good idea to get one from an 86-90 XJ/MJ/TJ, since those were the TBI years for the 2.5. 84-85 were carbed, and 91+ is MPFI. -
Was there one of those attached to the wiring you bought from me? I don't seem to have it.

jeep comanche running gear question
Geonovast replied to buddy208's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The engine can be made to work with the ZJ harness, although it's not going to be easy. The front axle will bolt directly in, however ZJ D30s are low-pinion, and it will actually be a downgrade for you. The rear axle is not even worth it. ZJs have coil and link rear suspension, so the axle would need a decent amount of work to make it fit in your MJ. D35s and ZJ D44s are not worth the trouble. Honestly, you will be better off finding a complete XJ for a donor. Front axle is a much better option, for the most part the wiring is going to be a direct swap (since XJ and MJ engine bays/dashes are the same), and fiddling with the rear axle will be easier. Something you may want to consider though... Since your MJ is a 4 cylinder, it probably has lower gearing than the 6 cylinder donor would have. If you're going with any sort of lift or larger tires, you'll probably want to keep your existing axles. If you have a 2.5/4 speed now, and you go with a 4.0/auto donor, chances are pretty good the gearing will be the same. (3.55) Broken down, really the only thing feasible to use from a ZJ is the longblock unless you have too much time on your hands. -
jeep comanche running gear question
Geonovast replied to buddy208's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That's a very, very broad question. What year Grand Cherokee? What year XJ? What, specifically, are your plans? -

Yeah, that must've been what it was. What cylinders are they on? 1-2-3 and 4-5-6? For some reason I'm thinking they were 1-2-4, 3-5-6.

If you're the only poster, you can delete it yourself by going to edit, and checking the box that says 'delete this post'. Just go to your other post, delete your reply, then the original post. But yeah, that's one of the problems I have with CL. People are idiots. They think the term Jeep simply means SUV. They do that crap too so it'll show up in a search for Jeep. Can't tell you how many times I've searched Jeep and had crap like Fieros and Suburbans come up because they list every make and model on the bottom of the description.

I believe Quicktime can play .3g2, or go install a FLV player and install the .3g2 codec.

Does your fire chief know about this?

(very) minor point, but there were no 2001 4cyl XJ's. (unless they snuck some in for fleet models, or something, since the books don't show them) I've seen several for sale at local dealerships and on CL.

Should we get one of Pat's MJs, and my 4.0 and go for a Patriotic cruise?

Help Please (or - I am totally aggravated here...)
Geonovast replied to Akula69's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I managed to get the pan out of a stock 4.0 XJ once by popping the passenger side motor mount bolt out and jacking up that side of the motor. I bet you anything the pan is catching on the oil pump pickup. -
Yeah, the only way to do away with that is to have a "true" dual exhaust. You just llose the note of the cylinders when they all run over each other coming out of the pipe. I know there is a company who sells a split header to do a true dual that I considered, but I never got that far into it. Can't remember who made it. Rob L. I've seen them, Pat had a set. Dunno if he's still got them or not.

I had an 89 XJ that had similar problems. Is yours an automatic or manual? My XJ's clutch master had a bad leaking problem and destroyed the fusebox, causing all kinds of cross circuits and weird shorts.
-
Definitely get it, especially since the 8.25 will have the 29 spline axle shafts.
-
He has a TBI motor. Sorry. I didn't know that. I've never had a jeep with 2/3 of a motor! 86-90 2.5 was TBI. Went to MPFI in 91. All 4.0s are MPFI.

BA10 Shift Stick Removal Question
Geonovast replied to robfg67's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yup, no need separating the shifter when the whole thing comes off. -
He has a TBI motor.
-
Yes, the 2.5 4 cylinder was the only motor available in every year XJ and MJ. IIRC after 91-92 ish ALL 4 cylinders were given 4.10 axles. Check to be sure however, as we can never say for sure.
-
No they're not. That's a D30. The Dana 30 was the ONLY front axle available on the XJ or MJ. It's possible to swap other axles in, but it's not the easiest.
