  1. Still coming?
  2. Nope, haven't pulled the carrier. If the weather's nice tomorrow/I'm not having a kid tomorrow, I plan on ripping the axle apart about as far as I can.
  3. I'd think it'd be easier(and safer) to just get a trailer axle if you don't want to keep the D35 back there. You could mount a generator to the pinion and install electric trailer brakes.
  4. I've never used FedEx, but everything that's been delivered by them has just been thrown on the porch. The only time the guy bothered to walk it to the door, I happened to see them driving up so I walked outside. UPS always walks to the door, and USPS usually does. Depends on the driver.
  5. Hey now, I wasn't the one with the spelling problem... I just made fun of the guy who had the problem. :smart: :rotf:
  6. Yeah that's where I'll go next. I didn't think that because I did the brakes late last year. I'm just really hoping it's something on the axle, because I've got a good complete 4.10 8.25 for it that has brand new brakes on it too.

    Free 258

Definitely a stroker down the road when there's funds for it. Hopefully I can find someone who needs the rest of it.
  8. Yeah, D-shaft joints are fine.

    Free 258

Yup, completely free. Guy was gonna charge, but at the last minute decided to just let it go. He's a big AMC guy, so if he ever comes across another one, I've got dibbs.

    Free 258

Saw on CL last night, picked up today. He pulled for a 390 swap.
  11. No, no bad experience really, I just don't drink and would like to keep the inside of the house alcohol-free. Really, you can bring a few if you want, just only drink outside and I don't want anybody getting piss-drunk. As of right now, there's a complete 258 sitting in the back of the blue MJ. I'd be more than happy to do payments with ya, but unfortunately it's not my motor and I doubt my dad would jump for that with someone he doesn't know.
  12. How long till you reach my post level? :brows:
  13. Yeah the centerpin looked ok, and the play can't be much more than a few thousanths. Well this really sucks. Next place to look is T-case.
  14. Nevermind, I did get a 258 for free. Going to pick it up now.
  15. Anyone? I'd like to get some idea before I replace them. Or should I just start looking for another source of the noise?
  16. A couple of brews is ok, generally I don't like alcohol around, but it's fine as long as it stays outside. Otherwise, no, nothing really I need you to bring. If you're able to get that motor, it would be SWEET, because there's a very very good chance I'm gonna score a complete 258 for free, so I'd really like to get one of those 4.0s out of the shed.
  17. Why the ZJ over a same-era XJ? ZJs have junk rear axles, junk transmissions, and not the greatest front axles. Not to mention virtually impossible to find with a manual transmission. (93 w/4.0 only, and very very few of them). If you can't get ahold of a decent MJ, I'd just look around for a decent shape mid 90s XJ.
  18. How much play, if any at all, is there supposed to be between the spiders and the center pin on a Dana 35(c-clip)? I've been getting a loud clunking sound whenever I touch the brakes, and it seemed to be coming from the rear axle. I've also been getting a grinding sound from back there while turning. I pulled the diff cover off and it wasn't nearly as bad as I'd thought. There's a little bit of play between the inner spiders and the pin. I can't really measure how much, but if you turn the wheel you can see oil spurt/bubble out.
  19. Yes the 2.5 and 2.8 use the same bellhousing, however the 86 and 88 do not. The external bellhousing is different from the internal. I highly, highly recommend using the 86 bellhousing and external slave setup. Internal slaves are horrendous. You'll just need to keep everything inside the 86 bellhousing, and you'll need to steal the clutch line from the 86. Everything is bolt on. You may want to use the 86's pressure plate, the external and internal ones may be different, but I'm not 100% on that. On my 91 2.5, I have a 93 AX-5, with an 86 bellhousing and external clutch setup.
  20. Hey, you're more than welcome to bring strippers.
  21. when the stippers arrive? :dunno: You guys are the strippers.
  22. You can have the wheel wells, but remember the flares are spoken for. Yes it is a 2 door.
  23. There is no 2.6 Options were the 2.8 V6 or 2.5 4 cylinder.
  24. Wow I hope they didn't buy it just for the T-case. 2.6 eh? Makes you wonder which one it could actually be.
  25. You can supplement with a little bit of a shackle lift too, but I wouldn't go more than an inch.
