  1. No desire to see it.
  2. There's a bed isn't there? :rotf:
  3. This seems a little backwards... You have one of the rare MJs with factory buckets(most came with benches), and you wanna take them out?
  4. Looks more like a Subaru Outback. :ack:

Pffft... jobs. :rotfl2: Glad to see you're workin now buddy.
  6. I saw an online article a few days ago about two XJs, both running about 65 mph, hit each other head on. Both Jeeps were demolished, but all 7 occupants were ok. Moral of the story: Be the one in the Jeep.
  7. Pfft, this isn't snow.
  8. Register it, fix every little bit of rust on it, clean it up reaaal nice, get some kind of hobbyist plate, and ONLY drive it in the summer.
  9. Electrics not cost effective?

A 95 might. Just remember the MJ and XJ had different amounts of wiring in there. Renix/HO shouldn't matter... I have a factory cassette out of a 91 XJ in my 88 XJ.
  11. Might be awhile unless you intentionally mistreat it. 2.5 may be gutless, but it's about as hard to kill as the 4.0 (being basically the same motor). My 2.5 has something severly wrong with cylinder #1 (compression at 50psi), it runs like crap, spits, sputters, gets crap mileage, eats oil, and has on more than one occasion been run unknowingly on practically no oil. Stupid thing still hasn't quit on me.
  12. You can grab a 4.0 from any year XJ. Since you need the entire wiring and control system anyway, it'll be the same amount of work for any year up to 96, and 97+ conversions can be done too. You can't just swap out the engine and transmission. The 2.5's control system will not support a 4.0. You need to swap everything.
  13. A '86 model will have clearance issues with a 4.0L. The firewall is a bit different on the '86 model year than the 87+. You will need to "clearance" your firewall a bit to fit the 4.0L in. Yes I'm aware. He was asking which years of 4.0s would be a direct bolt in swap. It's going to be just as much work regardless of what year donor he has.
  14. 4.0 into an 86? Every year is as "bolt in" as the last. You will need EVERYTHING. Your best bet is to buy an entire donor XJ, gut the MJ, then slowly transfer everything over. You'll need all the wiring(engine bay and dash), as well as everything in the engine bay, engine, transmission. You'll probably want to keep your axles as the 2.8's gearing will most likely be better than the donor's especially if you get a donor with a 5 speed. This swap has been done multiple times by quite a few people, hopefully one of them will chime in and/or link to a thread on this exact swap.
  15. First off... CRS? Second, if you're referring to the acronym list, it's here: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=12815
  16. It wouldn't have a D44 anyway. Metric Tonne packages in 86 came with an AMC 20
  17. Just a little tapping with a BFH. It's not that bad. Yes, 87-92 would be easiest... as you wouldn't need the BFH and core support stuff, but don't turn down a deal on a good 86 because of that. 86 is probably the most likely year to find one with a dead motor... those 2.8s were crap.

We saw you enter twice. :hmm:
  19. NV3550 is certainly an option... but unless you have a specifc reason to need the extra strength, AX-15(IMO) is the better way to go. More plentiful, cheaper, and a little less work to get in. They were the 5 speed behind the 4.0 in 00/01 XJs. From what I understand, finding a 5 speed in those years is not an easy thing to do.
  20. I thought it was mid 93 :hmm: Definitely somewhere between the beginning on the 93 model year and the 94 model year.
  21. lol 90-92 raises further questions. 86-90 were the Renix years. If you're looking for the HO(Chrysler) System, then your options are 91-92.

Not like it in here anymore Pete?
  23. Welcome  Two questions: 1. 92 XK? 2. Why are you looking for a 92 MJ specifically?
  24. Some Toyotas received the R151, which is a very close cousin to the AX-15. There's also some cousins to the AX-5, most of which are not interchageable, however I believe the W58 can be used to replace an AX-4/5 if you swap in an AX-4/5 input shaft.
  25. AW-4 is a pretty tough cookie. It was also the only auto used behind the 4.0 in the XJ/MJ. I'm not sure what auto/autos were used behind the 4.0 in the ZJ/WJ/TJ, but those ones seem to die a lot. Most ZJs I see for sale have transmission problems. And particular reason you're looking for a stronger one?
