  1. I can't let this one go, especially since you offered...so tell us, how do you know? I only ask because I hate clocksprings, especially the ones in small 2 and 4 cycle engines that use recoil starter assemblies. I've been owned more than once by them..... please share your experience with them, so I can laugh at someone else's misfortune other than mine, for once ;) Jeff Well, the one that I finally decided to try and repair had been jammed by the PO, and after examining it for awhile I drilled out the 5 rivets surrounding the edge of the case, grasped both halfs and pulled hard. The damn clock spring emerged from all sides of the newly created opening and several loops actually sprang right out at my face. Having no idea that the thing was possessed and wanted to slice my nose off (or worse), I abruptly yelled everyone's favorite adjective and threw it towards the ground, which only caused the evil spring to expand even further. When it finally finished flopping around like a beached fish, I grasped it firmly and finished the eviseration. After carefully examining the parts, I noted the clock spring had been contained in a steel circle that had several pieces of steel across it. I re-seated the bent end of the spring, and then proceeded to cut the $h!t out of my fingers trying to feed it back into the "cage". Eventually, I managed to restrain it in the correct position, which could be compared to herding cats. Compared to that feat, the rest of the re-assembly was anticlimatical. Now that I have done it, I will gladly re-build anyone's underhood light that wants me to do so, but understand when I tell you I will wrap the damn thing in a blanket first when I take it apart.... :rotf: :clapping: Good story  .
  2. Super cool :chillin: ! When is the anticipated date of completion, so we can plan the Garage warming party . I hope during the warmer months - some of us southerners’ are not prepared for the cold
  3. Welcome to the club  . Protofab (http://www.protofab4x4.com) is now making a rear bumper with an optional swing out tire carrier for the LWB and SWB MJ's-> Mike has not updated his website with picture and pricing yet, but he is working on it. I was told the pricing would be in line with his XJ bumpers. They come unfinished too. Check out my build-up if you need to see more pictures of the bumper. - Rich
  4. I do not know if this will catch on, but I need it just to refer back to my own progress  . I thought it would be nice to add an index to my build thread now that it is in the double digits. Like this: Page 1 Intro Added XJ Tilt Column & Grant Steering Wheel Replaced Headliner Junk Yard Tip; Hood Support Clip & XJ Under hood Light Refurbishing XJ 2 Door Bucket Seats Truck Bed Box Husky Liners Page 2 Walker Evans Wheels & MTZ Tires Rusted Out Floor Board Repair . . . and so on. It was a lot of work :ack: .
  5. PM me and I will tell ya  . Sorry, I don't have a real answer for you.
  6. Correct. The mercury switch is internal in the light housing on mine. I also put in an inline manual switch just in case the mercury goes south. :agree: I copied hornbrod's idea and put one on mine also. Most of the time I am working under the hood it's in my garage, so plenty of light and no need to drain the battery.
  7. Now try something else ;)
  8. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Yelp... found a match... Dang, he could be your dad. Thats a match
  9. All the reasons I went for the RE 5.5'' lift. I was going to get the TNT Y-Link (Trek) long arm kit, but time/money factors won over. Never driven an XJ/MJ with a long arm, but with the RE kit it rides better than before the lift. HTH
  10. :rotf: :rotfl2: That is awesome - I am going to try and work that into a conversation today :clapping:

That is amazing - I can't go two hours. Welcome back
  12. Ding-ding-ding.... That'd be me.... My glass is fine, but its missing the latch.. Wait.... Should I be writing this in the classified section??? :hmm:  :D  PM me about it :brows:
  13. Sweet justice :D
  14. Thanks to everyone for making this the best site on the World Wide Web  . We wouldn't be debating this if we didn't care. We are becoming just like family - minus the booze fueled beatings. I may not be a smart man, but I know what love is ;).
  15. Sorry for the delay. I was not ignoring you. I had to get home to measure the distance from my skull to the roof. I am 5' 9" and I have 6" from my head to the headliner sitting in the passenger seat. I used the passenger seat because normally the do not get sat in as much as the drivers seat and tend to be a little taller. Hope that help you. No worries, just curious. I also used the bottom cushion from a passenger seat for that exact reason.
  16. I can pick the solid back glass from the junk yard. Let me know if this is the route you want to go - seen one just this weekend. Just called LQK in St.Pete and they want $25 for the one piece glass. As long as we pack it well, I don't think shipping would be bad at all.
  17. Still in my top 3 MJ's of all time  . Enough sucking up - I am thinking about doing the same thing, but I am worried about the exhaust fumes getting in through the slider window - or inside the topper with my pups. Have you experienced any issues with the fumes getting in? I ask because it happens in the CJ/YJ's when they dump straight out the back. Thanks, Rich
  18. Heck yeah, that looks great! I have been putting that project off for a while now. I'm using the older style OH Console, but I think I like this one better  . I hope nobody asked this already - how much headroom do you have with those seats in there - they look nice, but tall? Very interesting build-up
  19. The Comanche Chief decals look good with that color. Welcome to the club
  20. :rotf: Neil Diamond - that 's
  21. That sucks :fs1: . Glad your OK.

    OMG that is awesome {some silly little smiley inserted here}
  24. Make sure you post a few "before" pictures of the truck. I always love to see how the project started out ;) . That sucks about the windshield. My windshield was the cause of all my floor rust :fs1: . I hope you can get one of those S10 bumpers on it soon; I am dying to see a write up on it. JohnQ said at one time he was attempting to do the same thing. You may want to hit him up for some input. Keep us posted on the build-up, it should be very interesting  - Rich
  25. Looks like it is going to be a fun project  . I have to agree with everyone, I'm loving the lift!
