  1. check your polarity of the welder. running flux core wire is different then solid wire. should be straight plarity
  2. A guy has one for sale. sa 200 f162. thats all I know and that it is a red face. From what I have read they are pretty desirable machines and weld great. It is in need of a restoration but it does run and weld now. just needs paint and cleaned up. anyone have any experience with these? thinking of getting it and starting my mobile business.
  3. I'm sure with the 6.0 she will really scoot. I didnt like the new bodies when they came out, but I have an '11 silverado ext cab z71 now lol. But I have always thought that was a good generation of trucks. and the 90s models
  4. I remember seeing this truck. You did a good job for sure... I really like that body style. Is it a 6.0?
  5. you have listed some very differnet options there... some easy and practical to some not. If you were to do a cummins or a 5.3 Id say only do it if you REALLY REALLY want it. It isn't that practical, yeah its cool but not practical unless its a purpose built rig. It sounds like yours is you DD? without having a second vehicle I would stay away from doing such a long drawn out detailed swap. Id drive your truck till she blows and have a used 4.0 on hand. once you get it going back again id say start saving and building for your stroker... thats just what i would do. but I enjoy reading builds so go crazy! :wrench:
  6. we have a wasr as well. I would say for what it is its great... and all the talk saying its not accurate... ehhh idk I would disagree, for iron sights on a semi auto assault rifle its pretty darn good! we were streching dads out pretty far and we were surprised. But like someone stated, if you want to reach out and hit something, get a better tool
  7. you will like that gun! I will ask dad about where to get some new stuff for it
  8. good to know. where are you getting your replacements?
  9. here is the helmet I think I'm going to use, going to look into replacing the lens.
  10. Awesome Post! I really appreciate that, very encouraging. Around where I live I have some large comPanies always in need of Welders as well as duke energy. So that's an option, and you are right I don't just want to be a welder but I'm perfectly content taking a job at the bottom to figure out what direction I really want to go. I have always enjoyed welding and making things when I have messed with it I am actually excited to start school. I never thought I would say that!
  11. Multiple 6G certified welder. I've had all kinds of cool jobs... for years I did repair work on anything from lawn mower handles to chromoly chassis, I did stainless milk pipe mixed in there for a while, recently been working in an aircraft facility doing jig work and frame repair among machining, wood repair, body work/paint, and a technical college instructor in welding technology for going on four years. awesome, I take it you enjoy what you do?
  12. I definitely see this as an investment. I'm going from a weekend welder/hobbiest to where I will be welding everyday, so I know I don't want a piece of crap. I think I will start off using my grandfathers speedglass, I'm the only one who uses it anyways. After a while if it doesnt seem to fit my needs I can go from there I guess. Are any of yall career welders?
  13. I start school in a few weeks for welding and of course we have to have our own helmet, as well as some other stuff. When I have welded in the past I have only used the cheap ones from lowes or the ones that come with the welder, or my grandfathers 10-15year old speed glass helmet. I know I don't want to go get the cheapest one out there, and I'm not about to spend a small fortune one one either. I really like the auto dark feature. What would you guys recommend? I will be using it alot obviously :wrench:

    New guy!

:wrench: welcome from Rock hill. good luck finding an MJ
  15. I kinda know how you feel. I have so many projects I want to do, but having no room at the house(with parents, I'm 21 in school still) I'm limited to what I can do. I do have access to my grandfathers full shop with lift and air tools etc. but I can't do anything long term, a weekend and I feel like ive overstayed my welcome. Goodluck with the garage build!
  16. me and my buddy are working on a 2000 xj his sister wrecked. it has say over a month since the wreck. we went out and it fired right up and ran strong. it has 186xxx miles on it. not as many as some others but still close to 200. The jeep runs VERY strong and I don't doubt it will go another 100k at least! we seafoamed it and it was pretty clean inside.
  17. either one of those brands are good. I don't think you could go wrong either way. I have a lincoln from lowes and love it. Its a smaller one, but I was still able to weld spring perches for my SOA as well as build my winch bumper.

    XJ flippers

thanks for the help! I will post back once we get it buttoned up
  19. What??? You probably have one of the most drooled over trucks here. Actually...there's a lot of really nice trucks on this forum. I've borrowed tons of ideas from all of the different builds here. I agree, some awesome trucks here :wrench:
  20. amazing! truck is going to look beautiful. the color looks awesome. reminds me of the color shelby put on the sp360s in 99
  21. I hope that the radiator works for you. I know how you feel. as soon as you start creeping in 4lo I can watch my gauge move, and its quick!! I didnt have any electric fan though. and I love this truck!
