How about a Renix HO?

Recommended Posts

I unvieled my MJ at my jeep clubs recent chili cookoff. Everybody drools over a Comanche :D

We were talking about it having the Renix motor & how parts availability is getting smaller & smaller. Someone suggested swapping over all the necessary componants from an HO 4.0.

I'm sure it's not possible but kinda got me wondering just what the major differences were outside of the computer(& accompanying sensors) not having to relearn at each startup. How about the motors hard parts, ie, pistons, cam, even injectors & such.

I have no intention of pursueing this, just curious.....

Well like I said I didn't have an answer for the guy since I didn't know if it WAS possible. Basically to swap over all the electronics & injection & stuff. Basically everything from an HO motor onto a Renix block since I hear all the horror stories of hard-to-get parts for the Renix motors.

It was just something brought up that made me go "Huh"

hard to get parts? if anything theyre cheaper than HO parts... case and point fuel pressure regulator on my jeep 20bucksish, on a buddy's HO 80ish.

I'm still deciding if I'm going to go the full HO-swap or Renix-retrofit route. I have an HO sitting in my garage, but I can't decide wether to re-use my old manifolds and stick with the Renix, or pick up an HO wiring harness and swap entirely. Its interesting to hear everyone's opinions on this 8)

I'm with LEAD_NOT_FOLLOW, I use a HO head, intake and Borla header on my RENIX block stroker. Just a few simple mods and it works great!!

89 MJ

4.7 Stroker

Same here, HO head and actaully a HO block too with my stroker, running all Renix electronics, very simple and easy to hook up.

From what I understand the Chrystler computer is smarter than the Renix one.

No it isn't. The Chrysler system has no knock sensor, so it cannot run at the maximum possible advance. It has to run on a pre-mapped curve that is less than optimum in order to avoid ping. That's why HOs typically get about 2MPG worse gas mileage than Renix vehicles.
