Jeeper1093 Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago I have a cluster with tach from an 87 with a 4.0. Can it be swapped into and 86 with a 2.5?
Jeeper1093 Posted 9 hours ago Author Posted 9 hours ago I also have the speedo cable from the 87. Can it be swapped as well?
eaglescout526 Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago If you’re going from an 84-86 Speedo and cable to an 87-90 Speedo and cable, that’s fine. But if you wanting to swap just the Speedo to the 86 cable it won’t work or vice versa. The Speedo and cable have to match since the connection to the Speedo are different.
Pete M Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago the tach will likely be off. but I can't remember which years might be adjustable.
Jeeper1093 Posted 7 hours ago Author Posted 7 hours ago Thank you for the info guys! Much appreciated. I am planning on swapping both the cluster and cable so hopefully I will be good. I have a feeling that my tach is not adjustable but I will see
Jeeper1093 Posted 7 hours ago Author Posted 7 hours ago 😆 😆 🤣 Got it! Thanks for the help. From what I've read I need to turn it all the way to the left correct?
Jeeper1093 Posted 5 hours ago Author Posted 5 hours ago everything seems to be working but my gas gauge. I get no movement in the needle when turning on the ignition. Any thoughts?
Jeeper1093 Posted 5 hours ago Author Posted 5 hours ago Upon further testing, I can manually move the needle to empty and turn the ignition on and the needle goes slowly to full and stays there even if the ignition is turned off

Its either missing a ground or bad connection somewhere. Maybe one of the tabs on the circut board on the back of the cluster got rolled up or shifted and isn't making contact.
jdog Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Did it work on the old cluster? If so check the connectors on the back of the cluster, if you don't put them in just right it has issues
Jeeper1093 Posted 1 minute ago Author Posted 1 minute ago put the old cluster in and did the same thing. Did some testing and I believe that the sending unit has gone bad.
