Factory paint "call outs" and best paint schemes? Post pics please?

I am starting the project of my 1988 MJ, and we are in the process of disassembly for paint and mods. I have an old (to me) type of doing restoration of restoring pieces as I can AS THEY COME OFF so they are ready when re-assembly starts. That means I figure out the paint scheme- first.

 

I went through the Comanche of the month pics for inspiration, saw some cool stuff.

 

I know there where some big factory "call outs/Lettering" from that era, but I haven't seen many good pics of it.

 

This is one of my favorite jeep projects I have, so this one is going to get some TLC. Plans for a 606 merc turbo diesel with about 350-400 Hp is sitting on the engine stand right now.

 

I am pretty sure I am going with red as the base color at this point, it is originally white with gray interior. Keeping the gray interior I think.

 

I think there were like "macho" or "comanche" call out's yeah? Also "4x4" or something?

 

Please post pics of your favorite paint ideas for the truck?

There was a Comanche Chief trim level. The Honcho that you could be thinking is for the J-trucks which is the full size Jeep truck.

Personally I think the best decals are Chief ones, but the late model 91/92 Pioneer stripes are awesome like @acfortier’s Truck. Another good one is the early eliminators, the silver contrast looks fantastic on darker colors like maroon and black.

I know phoenix graphics reproduces this decal, but do they print in custom colors? I've loved this decal but the orange doesn't go with the color I have on my MJ, would like to get this decal in just plain white.

yes, they can do other colors.

I believe that they show 3 different color combo's but maybe other's are available as well? As Pete said, Phoenix Graphics.
