kidz429
Ok, new radiator water pump heater core thermostat hoses why am I not getting heat? It’s very very light light warm when hand is on the vent. Few inch away and it’s gone. Engines swap from 4 to 6. The 4.0 had been sitting while. So cleaned out best can, and have flushed the core x2 since. First time was little clogged and heated right up great. But 2ed wasn’t at all but still won’t heat. I have checked the cable for the flap and it’s closing good. going to work when it’s 30o isn’t fun. Very cold natured!! Lol.

jdog
What is the temperature of the heater hoses with the vehicle fully warmed up, use a ir gun and see, if both are cold you have a air pocket. Which style cooling system are you running?
jdog
Another issue could be that it's just too cold, what happens if you block part of the radiator?
watchamakalit
What temp thermostat?

Which style cooling system are you running? I don’t have anything I can read it with. But the style….. well, kinda closed? But have a cap hose to add and such and the tank is hooked to the cap like the over flow. So kinda open to? I’ll try to get a pic today to help simplify description. Lol. And I haven’t blocked off the rad.

I didn’t do the swap but I know he would have put in what it should be or what would have came with. My temp stays below normal (middle) tho. No matter what. MiNi Beast
It rad has a cap you do not need a bottle... in means of a open system vs a closed system. Matters in your not building the proper pressures in the system, your just running stright as if you had no thermostat at at which only opens at certain temperature. Have you blown out the heater core as well when flushing the engine?

I installed a late model radiator on my old 88, but kept everything closed. as long as the cap has a higher rated pressure than the system uses normally, it's a closed system. cruiser54
@eaglescout526 What is the current part number for a factory thermostat? Where is it made? By what company? Does it have the "jiggle valve"? What's the price?
olddude
Thermostat could be stuck open. I had that happen on one of the coldest days of winter.
kidz429
I’d say like a open.

cruiser54
I was asking eaglescout to answer the rest of my questions. I've been down this thermostat rabbit hole before. I learned the hard way that factory stats are the only way to go. I'm trying to find out if the current Mopar ones are made by the same company in the same country. If I recall from one box I had it said made in the US and the side of the t-stat said moto-rad. I don't recall if it has an air valve or not as that was a couple years ago when I installed it and list price says $36.75 or through me would be about $27. I can order another one from LA and snap pics of it.

cruiser54
Thanks. You don't stock them?
eaglescout526
We used to stock them but they went on back order for so long that demand for them fell out of our system. Last time we had one, I special ordered for another member about a year ago and it didnt come in for about two-three months.
cruiser54
I know the suffix has to do with which gaskets are included in the box. So, what about one with no suffix or an A or B or something?
eaglescout526
It’s a kit that does three different t-stat housings. One for AMC engines and two more for other Chrysler products. I didn’t even know the suffix meant anything. I always thought it was just a change in part number when they go to a new vendor. My best guess about the original part number is that it included the t-start and the gasket for just AMC engines.
cruiser54
AMC/Jeep was no suffix initially. No gaskets.
