Aussie
Hi All, Does anyone know if there are alternative vehicle parts I can use? I have a 1990 2.5ltr MJ. It was my dads and I had it shipped over to Australia. They don't have them here, so no parts. Most USA companies won't ship to Australia. They have Cherokee models and others though. NEED: - Windshield - New rubbers for side windows - Rear bumper is missing the valance so can't mount the side covers - Hood stay arm clip - 4x Wheel center cap cover Jeep logo-Part Number 52089008 52001179 or alternative Thanks in advance
Pete M
the windshield is the same throughout the entire XJ/MJ run.

Parei_doll_ia
If you know someone with a 3d printer down there, I designed a replacement hood arm clip. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4741208

ExpatMJGuy
Welcome to the community! I’m moving there as soon as my 189 visa is approved. My MJ is coming with me! As far as known number of MJs in Aus, If you aren’t one I’m already counting from Ausjeepoffroad, then you would be number 5 I count as of today. You would be number 7 by the time mine and one other person I know moves there if his makes it in. Where abouts are you? We might have to exchange notes when it comes to shipping and rego to help validate my info is good. For us I t’s about a 75% chance we end up somewhere around Sydney and 20% chance we end up in Melbourne and 5% chance we end up somewhere else. I wouldn’t hate being up towards Brisbane but it comes down to where my wife gets placed for work. If you’re really hurting to get some parts I can’t speak for everyone else but I might even be able to ship some stuff direct. For bigger parts that are unreasonable to pack in a box, if you can wait they could possibly be put in my household goods but your looking about a year to year and a half out. The Cherokee advise is sound to everything but seats. The brackets are different and change significantly as the years go on so fabrication may be required. Other than that XJs are the same from the front of the front doors to the nose. And there weren’t early 2 door XJs sold in Aus so score! No confusion! ALL XJs were 4wd too so really after that only other hairy things to find for you will be dash and steering linkage components. The back of the front doors going back is pretty much Comanche specific. From my friends over on the Ausjeepoffroad forum say rockauto.com is a good source for American Auto parts that ship there. Might want to “give it a go” Pics! Good Luck, Welcome, and don’t forget to register your VIN on the registry page on this forum!
fiatslug87
The window wipes can be found at tramcherokee.com You can buy them ship to me and I’ll ship them to you, don’t know how much that would cost. Message me if interested.

Pete M
do you guys down under have any ideas for affordably shipping a 20x6x6 practically empty cardboard box (just a poster inside) to Australia? the USPS wants 75 bucks! that's the online express price though, I haven't yet gone to the post office to see if a cheaper option exists. Pete M
media means books of some kind. I didn't see posters anywhere in the explanation. I tried shrinking the size, but the price was the same. I'm getting the feeling that (like first class mail) I can't do the cheaper options from home. I gotta go in person.

Aussie
Hey all, I am trying to get a front windshield for my 1990. Does anyone know the dimensions of the glass?
Aussie
Just shipped a small package the size of a large envelope and it cost $30. No cheap way to ship. I would see if anyone is coming this way and ask them if they would get it at least as far as a local post office here in Oz. From here maybe $5 dollars to ship. gogmorgo
I can’t speak as to availability in Australia, but the ‘96- windshield, with the metal trim, is NLA at most of the places I’ve checked here in Canada. The rubber-trimmed ‘97+ XJ glass is still available here and will fit. Shipping windshields overseas can be problematic. My Lada parts supplier quit doing it because they couldn’t figure out a way to package them individually that guaranteed they’d show up unbroken. You basically need a crate that holds the glass upright and both cushions any shock loads and prevents the glass from moving around or flexing too much, and that won’t get crushed in shipment. Unless you’re wedging it into a shipping container that won’t get opened until it’s destination, the number of times the crate gets handled and moved between warehouses and vehicles, or ends up tipped onto its side because that’s the easiest way to handle a large flat crate seems to invite accidents to happen. I'm wondering if this is more of a supply chain issue (not to beat that dead horse we've been hearing constantly for the last 2 years) than them being actually discontinued? There's an awful lot of XJs still on the road. If it's going to be an issue I better find a new windshield soon...

I haven’t actually looked myself since pre-pandemic, although there was a post in early fall in one of the Alberta Jeep groups where someone looking for the early glass was able to get the ‘97+. But it was the fall of 2019 already when I couldn’t track down the early glass. The wholesaler we use at work said they didn’t have any in stock, not that it had been discontinued, but none of the glass shops I called could get me one. Aussie
So I have measured mine 58 inches wide by 27.5 inches high or 140.7cm x 70cm. The 2000 Jeep Cherokee seems to have the same size windscreen. Autoglass Warehouse in Coopers Plains, Queensland seems to have them for the Aussie crowd. Edited January 24, 2023 by Aussie typo 2020 should have been 2000
Pete M
do you mean the 2000 cherokee?
