Looks like a Connecticut tag on it.  Might send a pointer to Jay Ramey (the author of the article) about CC.com.  There are a number of trucks in here that could stand up against the one pictured.  

 

I wonder, is he the guy who solicited input from the membership for input toward an article?  A couple years ago someone posted a request for interviews.

Don’t need to “run” the vin through anything. 10th digit is always model year, and it’s a standardized digit across all manufacturers. ‘88 is J.

Well yes on that technicality but 91-92 are distinguishable by the three piece grill set up.

Run wasn't the right word for me to use, I know all the years for the VIN's what I'm getting at is they mustve gone up to the truck and looked at the VIN to tell

I feel like that could be true and the owner opted out of being mentioned anywhere in their article.
