I would love to see a so-called 'tough' toyota truck survive that.

my brother has an 07 prerunner 4banger taco (that stays on the rd. we have jjeeps for having fun in) and surfs TTORA.com alot, they have to stiffen the HELL out of their frames... a couple dudes have gotten replacement frames on warranty at the dealer from bends/cracks. :D

so yeah, i'd like to see one put up with that.

haha, i'm bout to be a toyota mechanic... i stay out of that arguement thouhg

toyota is the only other off-road vehicle manufacturer i have any respect for other than jeep.

well, some nissan's can be built too but still.

Unfortunately, Toyota is worse than Jeep these days for cranking out garbage and calling it 'off-road' That FJ thing is about the closest thing I've seen to reaching the lofty bars of uselessness set by Hummer with GMummer(H2,3,4,etc.)

I can tell you why the yota axle is 400.. it is cause they don't make them anymore  and it is what the market will bear. No worse then paying 800 and up for a d60.

Toy's are cool especially considering what can be done with lil or no money to them.

As for them being aholes.. well... I have run into just as many a-hole jeep owners, who think wheeling a MJ/XJ isnt a jeep cause it doesnt have a removable top, or think their crap is better cause they maxed out their credit cards building their junk. (rant off)

I hate to dissagre with u but jeep is also cranking out garbage , like the liberty , compass and that wj or whatever it is. and as far as the new FJ goes yes i don't like them either but i now have some respect for it , during a weekend of camping and wheeling i met this guy who had a new 07 FJ lifted /winch/bumper/33 etc... and he literaly drove this thing like he stole it . he managed to bust out a couple windows, rolled it , jumped it ramed things with it ripped off the factory skid plates . he had a bad a$$ gps/nav unit mounted to dash with wood screws and the interior was destroyed. the best part was it was less than a year old (paid for in cash) with like 29,000 on the ticker .o ya and the guy was one of the biggest Tweaker i have ever met in my life. iv got a couple pictures of it after it threw a rod sitting in the camp grounds , il try to get them today. jamminz.gif

I have seen the older style Libby do some serious when built right. The compass is pure garbage, the Patriot is a tad better then the Comp and looks good lifted, but can't do that great off-road. The Commander is fine but not something I would ever take off-road. I have seen some new Grands off-road and they don't do that bad. Just cause you don't like how they look doesn't mean they can't hold their own on stuff more its level. Don't try to take a Grand or Libby on a Wrangler trail, its not pretty.

As far as Toys, i have no opinion other then the truck from BTTF is !!

i never said i didnt like the way they look , but they are ugly. but was refering more to the shift from off road durability and capability to 0-60s and visual apeal/creature comfort

Jeep has done what it thought was needed to stay competitive in the SUV market. Do I agree with their decision.. HELL NO, but sales drive what vehicles look like.

Personally the new Grands don't do anything for me... The Libby... my mother in-law has one.. and while not my cup of tea.. she loves it.

The Compass... i agree is a waste of production line. The wifey wants a Patriot... and for the price.. she might get one. I just have to see if there are any major recalls or issues with them

This is true, Jeep has lost their legacy it seems. They are making things more like cars and only keeping the wrangler even close to off-road status. It was much better before CDX bought em. We had trucks and full-size SUVs that were built for off-road, not for mall parking lots.

Jeep should NOT be making cars, the old Libby was a better Libby overall (the new one is just the Nitro with a face lift that still will not make XJ fans like it), the JT is not going to pull in Jeep fans that want a true bed-separate-from-cab truck.

Lets just say American Auto makers have lost just to sum this up? I mean they are getting better at mileage and everything, but most this stuff they are just introducing was around from Tucker and DeLorean, and what happened to them? The Big Three shut em both down and started to use their ideas. But they didn't have the power to shut down their foreign competition and they are struggling to keep up with them.

Alex.

I feel brand loyality is the issue with pricing. They want a TOYOTA axle, not any other straight axle.

Toy's are cool especially considering what can be done with lil or no money to them.

For shizzle. Mine was basically all money in metal, which I recouped a bit from selling the doors and bed.

Wrangler guys tell me it's not the same cause we don't have frames. Sorry we can't bodylift...

Because this has become a calm brand war:

It is my belief that the '85 Toyota pickup is the best truck ever made. Reliable motor, tranny, t-case, straight axles, fuel injected, extended cab, lots of aftermarket, lots of OE.

I hate Toyotas because everyone and their mother has one.

My Favorite truck on the other hand, is the MJ. Has everything but an extended cab and is missing some aftermarket support because they're not Cherokees. The rarity and styling is what gets me into em the most. Plus, I can't think of that many motors that I would rank above the 4.0L, and even the 2.5L. When I see a built Toyota, whatever. When I see a budget boosted Manche... jamminz.gif
