Eagle
We had a thread recently about whether or not you should go knock on the door to ask about a Comanche parked in a yard. Well, I was on the receiving end of such a visit today. I found a Post-It in my storm door this afternoon. A guy left his phone number and said he wants to talk to me about my Jeep "stuff." So now I have to decide whether or not I want to give him a call. The last time someone stopped (actually, the last two or three times), it was some shag who wanted to pay me a hundred bucks for everything so he could part them out and make a lot of money. My attitude was that if I wanted them parted out, I could do it and I'd make the money -- get the [___] off my property. So I'm inclined to not even give this one a call. What do y'all think? Pete M
if you were looking to sell stuff, I would have thought you'd have posted something for sale.
87MJTIM
Ignore it. Throw it away. Save it for posterity. You choose. I found a note on my windshield one day. I still have it. I’ve never called the number
eaglescout526
"Stuff" is what gets me. I don't think he has any genuine interest in hearing your stories about the Jeeps you own. He probably wants to find out if you are interested in selling anything. Ignore it.
Minuit
4 minutes ago, Pete M said: if you were looking to sell stuff, I would have thought you'd have posted something for sale. That's my approach to things. If I wanted to sell, I'd put a for sale sign on it. If I wanted it broken up and sold for parts, I'd do it myself. That being said, there is no number small enough to write on all of the paper in the observable universe that will convince me to part with one, and I have cool plans for the other. Now if someone wants to just bull$#!& and burn daylight talking about jeeps without any pretense of making an insulting BS offer like this type of people always do? Come on down! Ωhm
No decision, is a decision. No call back, he'll figure it out.
mjeff87
I agree with most of the above, but there may be another part to the story. I've been driving past an old 2WD S-10 pickup that's been sitting at the edge of a guy's property for going on 2 years now. It's never had a for sale sign on it, but he's sold other vehicles and always parks them in the same area when he does (his house sits back on the property, surrounded by privacy hedges, and you would never see a vehicle parked back there anyway). I wouldn't mind picking up that S-10 just to have as a beater pickup, especially with springtime coming but I have no idea what he's doing with it other than just letting it sit there and slowly wither away. I'd like to approach him and ask but have only ever seen him out near the road once and I couldn't stop then to talk to him. I'd so love to drive up to his house and knock or at worst leave a note on the windshield with my number but feel kinda weird about doing either. Who knows, he might have no intention of ever selling it....the last inspection sticker on the windshield is from 2018, so I know it's not being driven anywhere. I might just wait until the next time he has a different vehicle for sale out there and then approach him about it, then ask about the truck. Manche757
I had someone leave a note on my windshield while out shopping but his note stated that he would be interested in buying if I were to sell my MJ. I called him. Told him it was not for sale but did have an interesting conversation with him. He had an MJ while in college but later regretted selling it. I have known people to buy houses in the $1million dollar range and boats that were not listed for sale by knocking on a door cold turkey. I was out riding my bicycle and struck up a conversation with a home owner about his MJ. He did not want to sell it but it is what lead to my buying a first MU 1100 miles away and then drove it home. Eagle
I have no problem with someone who is genuinely interested and is willing to discuss a fair price -- even if I'm not interested in selling at a fair price or any other price. Eaglescout526 picked up on it -- the most off-putting aspect of the poorly scrawled note was the reference to my Jeep "stuff." Not "your Cherokees," not "your Comanches," but "your Jeep stuff." That's the kind of notes I've gotten in the past, from people who want to low-ball me on price so they can clean up by parting out the vehicles. I'm interested in preserving them, if possible, not parting them out. As it turns out, my decision has been made for me. The guy scrawls so poorly that I can't make out the telephone number. And I'm not going to waste my time calling a dozen variations of what it MIGHT be to try to find the right guy.
