My Cherokee has the factory privacy glass and I had them match it for the front windows which the guy said 20% matched, and then it’s got 70% on the windshield. I haven’t tinted my Comanche yet since I plan to do the 1 piece window swap in the doors. I’ll probably do the same or maybe 30% on the sides and back

None on my MJ, but I had all rear windows on my XJ done limo black over the factory tint.  I'm pretty sure it's 15%, which is the light allowed through.

I think I have 15% on my doors. They help tremendously for the summer and AC work. The factory tint was gone on mine and purple.

my tint was also purple, it was also the only thing holding that one piece window. i'm hoping to do this before summer hits here and keep it a little cooler, 260 ac doesn't cool very well on a 100 degree day

I remember tinting the windows of my Chevy truck as a teenager.  Then, wanting to do a better job, and go with a darker tint, pulling the glass from the doors and doing it again.  Fast forward to more recently, when I got my 1991 XJ, I stripped the tint off all the windows, partly because it was turning purple, but for the hatchback window, and front windows, I like being able to see out at night.  Backing up that Chevy truck with heavily tinted windows at night was a gamble.

On my XJ, I scored some factory privacy glass for the rear doors and rear quarter side windows.  It does help with the summer heat.

I just got brighter reverse lights to make up for it

My 85 dodge had that same issue, couldn't see a thing behind you at night. I'd have to open the slider and the windows to see the mirrors. Don't want to go that dark again

The best thing I ever did was put LED bulbs in the tail lights. The running, brake and turn are all very bright and noticeable, and the reverse light actually does something now. Tint or no tint I would highly recommend LED bulbs.

I got these off Amazon for the brake lights and another Comanche guy on here got the same ones and said he liked them as well. As far as the reverse lights, the ones I ordered are no longer available, but can be easily found at parts stores or on amazon by searching “1156 white led” or something similar and choose one with good reviews.

Just make sure you guys check your local (state) laws on allowable tint percentages and other restrictions.  They vary substantially, including the size/area of the windshield.  Most use the AS-1 line or a measurement equal to it, but some allow full tinting.  Here's a good guide for all the states:

Agree or disagree with the laws, they are the laws.  And a really good excuse for PD to pull you over and invite themselves to a secondary search.  Just like license plate covers here in VA.....don't get me started on that.

Luckily I’ve never been pulled over for tint and I’ve never gotten a ticket for tint after being pulled over. My Cherokee is 20% on the front door windows and 70% on the windshield which 30% on doors and no tint on the windshield in my state is the law. A jetta I bought had 5% tint on the front windows and double 5% on the back windows and back windshield, and I have a friend with 30% on the windshield and 5% on everything else. I’m honestly surprised neither of us have had any issues with tint, mostly him since it is very noticeable.

I got pulled over once in my Sable for tint. The cop supposedly saw my windshield strip was 1/4" below the AS1 line from across the 4 lane divided highway and wanted to search my car.

Waldo, FL is the reason. The PD was so wild with traffic stops that the whole department was actually disbanded. Half of the city's revenue came from tickets. They actually passed a bill in the Senate and AAA put up speed trap warning billboards, this town was so bad and https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.news4jax.com/news/2014/10/01/city-council-disbands-waldo-police-department/%3foutputType=amp

I've not been pulled for tint (all my stuff meets the laws here in VA), but my buddy has.  He was even a career firefighter with the county, and had his FD plate on the car......not that I agree with "professional courtesy" in most cases, but holy heck.  Not like he was trying to rob a bank or anything.

I did get pulled in the KJ for having a clear plastic license plate cover on both of my tags (front and rear here in VA).  County cop said it was a Code violation, but eventually only gave me a warning with 24 hours to get them removed (which I did).  I didn't believe him about the Code thing, so I looked it up and he was actually correct....we can't have ANYTHING covering our tags here.  I can understand those really dark tinted ones where you can't see the tag numbers, but mine were CLEAR.  I just got new Gadsden flag plates and didn't want to get bug guts and rock chips all over them, so I just bought the new covers a couple days prior.  Ended up being a waste of $20 for me:mad:

Sorry, thread hijack over.

yea, i'm not looking to go to dark, law here is 27%, why such a odd number is beyond me or my control, darkest i would go would be 25% and that sucks about the covers for the plates, glad to hear you didn't get a fine tho. guess I'm on the hunt for LEDS as well.

Oh yeah that’s actually the limit where I live. I always forget because it’s a weird number, and I just say 30 because that’s the closest you can get without going over.

I got pulled over on suspicion of speeding in a small town in TX.  Hit me with a tint ticket.

Of course, it was cheaper to pay the ticket than to fight it even though he likely didn't have the radar gun logs to show he even tagged me for the alleged speeding (since I wasn't speeding).

I hate small town cops who write BS tickets.
