I woke up to the radio saying that a plane had hit a building in downtown NYC. Rolled out of bed in time to see the second hit live. :(

Wife and I were on our way from Stone Harbor, NJ down to catch the Cape May/Lewe's fairy to get back to VA when we heard the first hit on the radio. Thinking it was some kind of wacky DJ morning-show schtick we kept going.

When the second one hit, I turned around and drove right back up to the house we were staying in and holed up until the next day.

The plane that crashed in PA was about 20 minutes away from the family house.

My perspective on that whole event must be different than a majority of the members here. I was no where near either of the crashes nor did I know anyone personally involved.

However it still hit home. School was cancelled and we all watched the news in the gym. Extremely tense time, and looking back I was really to immature to know what was going on.

I have some very strong feelings about that day, and what happend.

On that fateful day I was still living in Manhattan, but at that exact moment I was in New Jersey, (I worked there).

When the second plane hit, I knew our country was being attacked, and I knew there would be a terrible price to pay.

I called my wife, (we lived very close to lincoln center), I just wanted to warn her to stay away from public places. Amazingly I got right through and was able to leave a message, it was two days later before I was able to actualy get a call through and talk to her.

It was close to a week later before I could even get back into Manhattan to see her and my son.

My mother-in-law was 5 floors below where the first plane hit, somehow she made it out just moments before the whole place came crashing down.

I went down there to "ground zero" about two weeks after the 'event' and it was extreamly disturbing, something I will never forget.

I remember seeing all of the "missing" signs and "have you seen?" signs.

I remember seeing a steel "I" beam from one of the towers that was litteraly stuck like a spear into one of the adjacent buildings. I mean a hugh I beam, like you could only fit one on a semi tractor. Everything, for blocks away, was covered with a chalk dust from the drywall that had been pulverized, . There was a strange smell in the air, sort of like burning garbage mixed in with burning rubber.

My home town in New Jersey had alot of people who commuted to NYC, and quite a few of them went to WTC, so this realy hit home for me.

That is one day I will never forget, nor will I ever forgive.

God help the first Muslim who trys to "rationalize" to me "why" these scum did this.

I was driving my MJ to the airport for a business trip from Oakland CA to San Diego CA. At first I too thought it was a DJ gag. When I got to the airport I was told the airport was closed and was waived on through. That was just after the second tower was hit.

The bad thing is.. the ppl who did this will never be brought to justice. That one day forever changed America..This is our Generations Pearl Harbor... God have mercy on all of the lost souls.
Good point.

I was in my Junior year of High School. I remember myself in the lunch room, they didn't let the news out till around that time.

3rd year university. on my way to work when the first plane hit. didn't know about till i got to work. i worked in a pub on campus. we watched the coverage on the big screen the whole day. lights up, no music, just the tv. very surreal. i remember watching the second plane hit thinking "did that just happen?!?!?!?!?" seemed like a bad dream that just wouldn't end. and i'm canadian :Canadaflag: .

i'm a police officer now (RCMP) and know what it means -and what's going throught your head- to be running toward the danger when everybody else is going the other way. nothing but respect for the men and women who died trying to save the lives of others that day.
