MJMOPARMAN Posted April 17, 2019 Posted April 17, 2019 Picked up this “rust free” MJ in Colorado August of 2017. My intention was to do the full swap from a 97+ and make it look like a stock Comanche if they had continued making them. Once I got to replacing the rear axle early on in the build with an 8.8 I made the decision to do the axle flip and lift it ultimately delaying completion of the truck by a year or more due to funds.
MJMOPARMAN Posted April 17, 2019 Author Posted April 17, 2019 The truck was missing the tailgate, unbelievably a local salvage yard had one on hand. I started disassembly and found that the rubber floor mat and heavy undercoating were masking some rotten floor pans.
MJMOPARMAN Posted April 17, 2019 Author Posted April 17, 2019 One of the most time consuming parts of this swap was dealing with the firewall. I found a 1998 XJ that had severe rust issues in the roof and quarters as my donor and got started swapping everything over.
MJMOPARMAN Posted April 17, 2019 Author Posted April 17, 2019 At this point the major welding was done and I sent the cab off to be painted.
MJMOPARMAN Posted April 17, 2019 Author Posted April 17, 2019 I fitted a fuel tank and pump from a 1998 Dakota. I notched the frame to clear the fuel filler.
MJMOPARMAN Posted April 17, 2019 Author Posted April 17, 2019 Iron rock off road critical path long arms,6.5” springs and crossover steering. Unibody bracing for steering box.

I was able to pick it up locally with 4.11 factory gears, I knew I wouldn’t go over a 33” tire and 4.11 is what I figured I would use.
