But why the black tailgate? Maybe the fool thought that w/o the topper and a black tailgate the cops wouldn't make the connection to a stolen vehicle?

Yes, you are right.  Thief could have had handgun.  Son spent 10 years, Army Special Ops.  Two combat tours. Sometimes training just kicks in.

Glad to see the truck was recovered.  I always wanted to do a tdi conversion on one adn actually talked to HPA motorsports when they launched the wrangler and where developing the XJ kits. this was even before they split that devision off to become coty built.

Nope.  Cheap little thing from Walmart.  I figured something is better than nothing.  It's actually a USB charger with a GPS built in lol.  I got it when I bought a dash cam for the xj.
