Fernando87mj
Hello I'd like to introduce my newly acquired 1988 Comanche, some of you might recognize her , I had already purchased her once a few years ago and then sold it and regretted it and now I have bought her back for a whopping 900$. She runs and drives beautifully , starter seems sluggish thought and she had non functioning hazards and stop lights but that has been fixed. Plans for this is to just get her running even better , going through all of cruisers tips , and also get her repainted and swap the front end to chrome and just drive and enjoy it. This one is equipped with the 4.0 , 5 speed Dana

Fernando87mj
Decided to clean up the carpet and re paint it and I'm really excited with the results . I also didn't like how the plastic surrounding the gauges was gray so I decided to paint it black Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Fernando87mj
Had time to work on her again , this time I decided to clean the grounds and the relay center. Replaced cap and rotor and the oil pressure sending unit. The drivers taillight was broken and held together by wire . It was time to rebond and refresh the lights. Also the passenger fender was rotted by the Vegas sun, luckily I had a spare fender just for the occasion. 13 Legion
‘Sun rot...’ I’ve never heard that term. I’m from the rust belt. ‘Sun rot’ sounds like a good trade off! Congrats on getting your old truck back. I bought my high school car back ( ‘70 Malibu) when I got out of the service. Didn’t go as well as your buy back! Frame was too far gone and I ended up taking it to the crusher. Learned a valuable lesson about nostalgia and my money(again). Best of luck.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

PCO6
I'd go for "sun rot" too. I try to look on the bright side though. Our climate - and salty roads - have made me a better welder. I notice that you have a dashboard carpet. I had never seen one before but I got one with an '89 XJ that I recently bought. I have a piece that covers the glove box door too. My guess is that they are to protect from sun damage but that's not a big problem up here. We don't get a lot of "sun rot". Have fun with your new project! Fernando87mj
Crazy day today. Went to the junkyard and left a happy man . Scored a nice , 3 spoke wheel , a working clock , and a dog light switch. All was going perfectly until when I went to use the steering wheel puller on the Comanche. The tip of the puller slipped off the steering wheel shaft as I was tightening and messed up the first 2 threads . But after a long day I got the threads fixed and the Comanche back together. Fernando87mj
I've done a lot of work to her . Still have a long way to go . I performed cruisers tips 1-5 8, 28 ,29 . The idle was a mess and the tps was way off . Someone tried to replace the vacuum lines but made it worse and I had to fix that . Once the lines were put back right I started her up and idle was at 1500 Rpm . Drove me crazy trying to find the issue untill I found out someone had messed with the throttle body screw 🤦♂️. Then more fun The rear spider gears blew and left me on the side of the road . I took care of those and replaced them with some off a jy Comanche and got her back together and she's driving good . I decided to replace the fuel pump and filter because I was having poor acceleration and backfires through the intake. I Went ahead and just replaced it since I didnt know how old the old pump was . I had a mopar o ring gasket laying around and decided to use that instead of the crappy one that came with the pump . I got all of those things done and she's running wassayyy better than before . Although I am having an issue with sputtering/misfire right now . I feel like it's. going to be something with the ignition system . I'm going to try indexing the dizzy and see if it makes any difference. I also swapped the front clip to chrome . I still need to get a chrome bumper and a better grill to tie it off nicely . Fernando87mj
It’s Been a while since an update , but since the last update I have done a few things to improve the old jeep . I have since done cruisers tips 11, 14, 18, 28,30. i have added an extra ground from the battery to the fender. Then another ground has been added to the dash ground and another for the blower motor. There was also a mess of wires behind the dash and was blowing my radio fuse but I have since corrected the problem. There was also a vacuum leak at the climate Control panel but has been fixed , the issue was that one of a the rubber hoses had popped off, no more hissing noise behind the dash anymore
Fernando87mj
I also replaced the front brakes and rotors and installed brand new timken wheel bearings . I also replaced the old alternator with a new ac Delco unit. I also added the battery hold down and have since done many little things here and there to imrove the jeep , from repairing old wires and Improving grounds to adding a supplemental headlamp harness and adding Missing interior pieces like the rear cab panel. Fernando87mj
All the work that has been done has made a tremendous difference in the way the truck runs and drives. Cruisers tips have helped tremendously. The first vid is of the jeep starting when I first accumulated it. The second is how it starts now after all the work that has been to it . Quite a big difference. E120659D-5EDD-49F4-8D8F-95FC39436FF3.mov

Fernando87mj
Followed this diy thread and got my fuel gauge working again, the spade connector had broken just as it did on this thread , when I had replaced my fuel pump. . I also cleaned up the sending unit itself with a wire brush and fixed a few wires that were rubbing on the drive shaft . It’s nice having a fuel gauge again .
