ftpiercecracker1
My parents have two, 5spd 4x4 toyota tercel wagons. These are the only cars I have ever seen with selectable 4x4. They also have an extra low gear within the transmission that is only available once 4wd has been engaged. They both still run w/ nearly 300k on each, but they have a myriad of problems. Not to mention they lack any modern niceties. Pwr windows, a/c, airbags, etc How rare are these cars? My searches on CrL seem to say very, as it is very rare to see one for sale. Were there any other cars made with selectable 4wd? As I said I have never seen or heard of another car with selectable 4wd. Even cars with awd seem quite rare. For several years now I have been strongly advocating for my parents to get rid of them, and get something newer. But I am starting to appreciate their uniqueness and considering trying to hold onto them and fix them back up proper. Tell me what you think. FPC. RAH66
I believe the AMC Eagle also had selectable four wheel drive! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMC_Eagle Also I just happened to see one of those 4x4 Tercel wagons on Sunday, and I made a comment to my wife about how while it's a vehicle I wouldn't own personally, I love seeing rare, interesting vehicles like that! DesertRat1991
lol, what an adorable turd of a vehicle... The defrost doesn't blow warm enough to keep the windshield from freezing. And it comes with a dashboard inclinometer...for serious offroading, just like your $65,000 Ford Raptor!

FPC. the 88-92 Camry and corollas also had this option, though only the wagons were selectable, the sedans were full time. edit: Honda had an awd option for the civic wagon, but I don;t know if it was selectable. DirtyComanche
One of my friends had a "Turdcel". We would get drunk on the weekends and flip it over in his driveway. They're light enough a couple guys can just pick up one side and they go right over. I do have to admit the car seemed to take the abuse well. I'd get an Eagle instead. Minuit
The Subaru Justy had selectable 4x4 as well on some models, but good luck finding one of those. Have to admit the AMC Eagles always have appealed to me in a weird way.

Wiggilez
Anyone here besides me that owned one? I've seen a few and almost bought one twice. Although one was a corolla wagon. But so far seems like it.
johnj92131
Anyone here besides me that owned one? Which one? AMC Eagle/Sportabout? Justy? Toyota Tercel? I "think" you owned the Eagle.
cruiser54
I know I owned an Eagle Limited wagon. Neat car. Selectable 4WD and a viscous coupling in the transfer case.
AMCJeepMJ
The boxy Subaru GL's/Loyale's of 80s vintage had a pushbutton selectable AWD. Subaru used to make some quirky cars back in the day.
