gogmorgo
And accidentally on purpose put in a bid on this wreck, made a typo in my bid so it was much higher than intended and then won... Or possibly lost, depending on how you look at it. Either way I'm now the not-so-proud owner of this fine KJ. It's an '03 4-banger/standard with ~45,000 miles. That's all I know from the listing, but I'm already into it $400... I haven't seen it yet, but unless my research is wrong, I'm thinking the rear axle is going to be a 4.10 8.25 w/discs, which is what attracted me to it in the first place. My plan is to pick it up tomorrow (already had a "recovery" day booked off work, just not that kind of recovery...), grab the pos, drop the axle, and scrap the carcus. Is there anything else I should be looking at that would be useful on an MJ? Assuming there's anything useful left on it at all... In regards to my plan for the axle, I think it was JeepCoMJ put me on to it a couple years back. Not sure yet if I want to prep the axle for the MJ's leaf springs or prep the MJ for the KJ links (and I know which will be easier) but that decision is going to be put off until I have the rest of my lift &c planned, I'm just going to grab as much as possible out of it so I can leave my options as open as possible in that regard. And kids, don't get yourselves a credit card. It enables $#!& like this.

Rockfrog
Transfer case should be a 242 unless it's 2wd. Good for parts. Don't be surprised if it has drums though.
yxmj
The t-case will be a 231 or a 242...that would be worth something...and I don't know if you would want it for your MJ but my wife has the same KJ and the buckets are big and comfortable
gogmorgo
Yeah, I was thinking about grabbing the seats... I'm a little short on furniture in my place, lol. Didn't even look twice at the tire carrier, but I'll check it out too. I've already got a 231 kicking around, but if it's a 242 I'll grab that as well. I was thinking the trans might be a decent potential swap for my Lada and maybe the motor but I don't know how much of it's left. I also don't want to spend too much time with it, I'll only have about a six hour period between when I can pick it up and when I can drop it off at a wrecker unless I can find a closer one. I also don't want to hang onto it too long either and deal with parting it out... I'm sure xymj can attest to how many KJ parts sit forever on kijiji and my landlords are already not happy about the half-XJ I have sitting in my backyard already. Jeepman
The KJ doesn't use a VSS like the XJ/MJ so the tailhouing is different...
Blue88Comanche
can't tell from the pics, but if it has Disk brakes and you have a later 8.25, they should be a direct swap.
Incommando
Some '02 & '03 4-bangers used a D35 rear :( . I have those rims on my MJ. I don't like them lol
gogmorgo
It does have discs :D And I'm pretty sure that's an 8.25. For how crushed the front end is, there's very little protrusion into the passenger compartment. A bit of damage where the trans got shoved around in the tunnel, and the door gaps are a little off, making it seem like the body got a bit of a twist, but none of the glass is even cracked, and all the doors still open and close properly. The very rare quick-change timing belt option. heh Not sure where the shifter went but the holes don't line up any more... big surprise. Interior's not bad but everything's covered in dog hair. I'm still up in the air about the seats, don't know if I'll have the time to pull them, but they're in pretty good shape. Shameless promotion of a local beer. It's superbly mediocre. It is 4x4, with the 231. Pretty basic spec, although it looks like it might have a towing package if such a thing existed... 7-pin trailer plug and wiring look factory. Didn't think to look for a brake controller but if there is one I'll for sure nab that. I have those rims on my MJ. I don't like them lol Get this, they've got @#$%ing locking lug nuts on them and the key isn't in any of the obvious places. So I missed my window to get it to the wrecker I was intending on by a long shot. Haven't even started pulling things. Had to borrow the tow vehicle from my dad and he took forever getting it here this morning. There's a much closer wrecker that's the only one I know of open on Saturdays in the area, but they close at noon. Hopefully I can get at least the axle out of it and some other goodies by then... shouldn't be too much trouble I don't think.
Incommando
Power window regulators, especially the rears, are failure prone and hard to find for those so they might be worth saving for re-sell
Pete M
not sure if they are all the same, but I hate the seats in our 06 limited. I bring a foam pad to sit on for long trips.
gogmorgo
Haven't sat in the seats yet. I haven't found many seats from that area comfortable either. The ergonomic design for the average 5'9" person doesn't work so well for someone 6'2" like myself. Pushes my shoulders forward leading to me driving all hunched over and the lumbar support, if even there, is too low to do anything for me. I hope that's not the case with these seats, but I don't plan on putting them in another vehicle if they do come out... They'd be going into my living room :D
88whitemanche
Irrc these liberties used the ax15 trans...you may have been just lucky enough...
gogmorgo
Don't think I got so lucky. Everything got shoved back pretty hard. The bellhousing's cracked and I don't want to know what that did to internals. Also the 231 housing is cracked where the front driveshaft got rammed into it, so that's nfg as well. I've got the axle out. The lca bolts were absolute bastards. The nuts must be some kind of distorted thread. That or just old and rusty, but I had to creep them off by rocking them back and forth with my impact gun. I'll have to call around to wrecking yards now cause I just missed the only one I knew would be open... They close at noon.
Incommando
Irrc these liberties used the ax15 trans...you may have been just lucky enough... Pete M
is the pedal a wireless one? are the tailights ok?
gogmorgo
The gas pedal? One of the tail lights is cracked. If somebody actually wants something I'll try to make an effort, but I'm just about sick of thinking about it. I got the rear suspension out and then a housing comity rep showed up and gave me an official warning that I wasn't allowed to keep it around, (well, technically just that I can't take it off the trailer...) and also that I need to get rid of my parts XJ as well before the end of the month. Sigh.
Pete M
I'm pretty sure the non-crd libertys had normal throttle cables, but figured I should ask. we have an electronic accelerator pedal. I hate it and suspect it's the cause of my issues. :fs1: and a search has shown a part number gap between your taillights and ours so I'm guess that's out too. :(
gogmorgo
Well I can see what's left, but even if it is intact I still may need the jaws of life to get anything out of the engine bay... Diesels and gas engines do the throttle thing very differently. Are you sure they'd even be compatible? Or are you just thinking the pedal itself?
Pete M
more research has shown that they are in fact not compatible. dang. :(
gogmorgo
Well, so you or any other curious person reading this know, it does in fact have a mechanical throttle cable. Hopefully getting rid of it tonight...
