ComancheLee
Looking at a comanche but it has a 2.5 line 4 should I stay away from it or is that a solid engine
87Warrior
It is a solid motor with a reputation like the 4.0. I love my 180k mile 2.5!
mnkyboy
My 2.5l has done well for me.
yxmj
I have had it in a TJ, XJ, and an MJ....It does not have all the power of the HO 4L.....but for a daily driver you can't beat the mileage.....
jimoshel
I'm running four Jeeps with the 2.5. Three of the four have over 100K on them, all original. There are more powerful engines out there but not more reliable. It probably takes me 2 seconds longer to go from 0-75 than a 4.0. mjeff87
The original 2.5 in my old MJ was swapped into a buddy's MJ when I did my 4.0 conversion. It had about 200K on it then, and as far as I know it's still chugging along (buddy sold his MJ a couple years ago). Only thing I ever did to it internally is replace the timing chain tensioner and timing set. Timing set was good, just the tensioner wore out.  Jeff

shelbyluvv
I'd buy a 2.5 equipped truck over a 2.8 all day every day. The 2.5 is a great little motor. I've owned a few of them, a few 4.0s and one 2.8.
CGCWO
118K and counting on the one in my 89. Picked it up with 115K, changed oil, added a good helping of Sea Foam to oil and gas tanks, fixed a couple of small leaks and it is purring right along. Pretty much a daily driver now, oh and yes the gas mileage is great for a engine that old in a truck. Had a 2.8 S10 years ago and this 2.5 would run circles around it. No the S15 i had with a 350 swap is another story... :)
COMJNUT
The 2.5L is a good little motor, just don't push it and don't try to push it while on the highway going uphill. I had one in a TJ, it did good until I pushed it with 31" tires at 55mph going uphill...it didn't like that. Hopefully the new owner after didn't have to rebuild it a few months after I sold it. Considering the TJ was +500lbs curb weight compared to a MJ, it was at the limit of its resources.
AMCJeepMJ
210k and purrs like a 28 year old kitten.
