projectMANCHI Posted September 5, 2014 Share Posted September 5, 2014 Hi, just ordered the rough country 4.5" lift kit for my 86 comanche. next thing to buy is wheels and tires, I'm going to get some black daytona steelies 15x8 with -12 offset. my question is should i buy mickey thompson baja mtz 31x10.5x15, or bf good wrench a/t ko's 32x11.5x15. these are the only available sizes in these particular tires, i want the mtz but i feel like 31's will be too small for a 4.5" lift, i also like the bf goodies plus they are cheaper and i feel like 32's will look a lot better. what tire do you guys think i should buy? looking to order them here in the next couple days, THANKS Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

That's not what you said a couple of posts above. what tire do you guys think i should buy? looking to order them here in the next couple days, Keep in mind that if you have an '86, unless you have done a power plant swap/upgrade, you have either a second generation 2.5L or a 2.8L engine. Neither is a powerhouse. They'll be working hard to push 31-inch tires. I don't think you'll be happy with 32s or anything larger. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Dadinator Posted September 5, 2014 Share Posted September 5, 2014 I have had a couple of sets of BFG's. Good Tires. I now have Cooper AT3's on the TJ. Love Them! Quieter on the street, and do way better in the rain on the street. And they are reasonably priced. They seem to have a really good grip off road for an AT. Have used the truck variety on a full size and am looking forward to trying the regular version on the MJ. Of the two options you posted, I would be more inclined to go with the BFG. Incommando Posted September 5, 2014 Share Posted September 5, 2014 First of all be brutally honest with how you will use the truck. Aggressive tires are great if you need them. Otherwise most have many drawbacks such as greater cost, decreased tire life & MPG, road noise, loss of on-road handling ability, bad effects on wet and/or icy roads, and such. If you do not need them then get an A/T or even a street tread and you will be a happier camper. There is a large penalty involved with being a poser when it comes to tires. The difference in ground clearance and wheel-well stuffing between a 31 & 32 is only 1/2". It is also only a couple of hundred RPM's difference at daily driving speed. MuddFoot Posted September 6, 2014 Share Posted September 6, 2014 i hate all bfg tires alot of issues with them have quite a few rip open on me. the general grabbers a/t 2s is what i ran on my 99 cherokee and loved them i would def buy again. cooper a/t3s i put on my wifes liberty its the only tire that has lasted more than 2 years of her driving. she went through 2 sets of stock goodyears which i will never own another goodyear. she has 60k on the at3s and they still have a little tread. For an A/T they look pretty aggressive. And like was said you'll be suffering in the power dept the bigger you go with tires. Especially with the 2.5 or 2.8. gogmorgo Posted September 11, 2014 Share Posted September 11, 2014 Another vote for the Grabber AT2's. They wear pretty well on the highway, and grab decently on loose surfaces. They also accept studs for winter use, but even unstudded I've got pretty good results out of them in the snow. With open diffs I've never been stuck in snow unless I've been plowing with my bumpers.
