Jim's 88 Mj Pioneer, "the Beast"

I parked the MJ about 5 years ago and kinda forgot about it (getting married, having kinds, buying a house, getting more "sensible" daily drivers) but I'm back now...the ole girl needs a lot of work. -

So what is your front suspension set up? And do the 33x10.50s rub at all. Thinking about doing a similar set up on mine. 1" shackles and m/t springs in the rear still? -

Well due to an unexpected blown head gasket on my daily, the trans swap got put on a rush. External slave, Ax15 is installed, shifts like butter but it leaks like a sieve. I'm hoping i just overfilled it but someone i don't think I'm that lucky given my track record as of late. Still have alot to do but she is back on the road...for now -
I should have some for you. Ill have to check my inventory.

I have a 3/4 cluster out of an 88 cherokee. 91 and newer were the HO refering to the engine and ignition system which also had electronic speedos. Early modles have cable driven speedos. But regardless i have on if you are interested

Getting my donor stripped down. time tor start getting the pieces cleaned up and ready to put in the comanche. External slaved ax15, 231 t-case to be degunked and painted, dana 30 to get 3.55 gears and an eaton e locker, 8.25 rear to get perches moved to go in the comanche, 3.55s, posi trac, and zj discs. time to get started again. feels good to start working on it again and seem like I'm making progress. Motor trans out of the donor Time to start building some axles Out with the old BA/10 Time for degunk and a coat of paint for the new (to me) ax15 Planning on V8 zj coil springs, steering and sway bar, metric ton spring from general spring, and rancho rs5000 shocks all the around -
Ive got her back in the states now, debating on selling her and thinning out my large fleet of vehicles. between my grandfathers 1994 chevy 1500 that i inherited, 2 comanches, 2 cherokees, my mitsubishi built cj3b, my fairlady, a jetski, and mustang, i think i have too many.

Clutch kit came in, ordered a conversion pilot bushing from Novak that is supposed to adapt the newer external slaved ax15 to the older 4.0 and 4.2 cranks. I just need the weather to cooperate so that i can finish pulling the trans out of the donor xj and get installed in the comanche. Then i can get started rebuilding and regearing the 8.25 to go in it. -

Back at it again. I finished my tour in Japan and now I'm in sunny Florida. Got settled in my new house and not a week later the internal slave went out again. So i went out and got a 94 2door xj 4x4 5 speed to finish my 4x4 swap and finally ditch the ba10 for an ax15. Also get my block and head back this week from the machine shop to start building my 4.6 stroker for it. I got myself a new daily driver so the comanche can be in full blown project status. Its a shame the body on the xj is so rough because ive always liked them but for $700 that runs and drives i think its a perfect donor. -

its 25 years anything can be imported. This jeep has already been imported, bought it from a friend of mine who needed funds for a couple projects. it is currently at his parents place in Vermont so I am now trying to figure out logistics of getting it back to Alabama when I move back stateside in July. I also have a spare motor for it that has 52,000 km. i should be set. These motors have a good reputation here in Japan. Now i got to decide what from the fleet is getting the boot. 2 mjs, a yj, a 63 gmc, a rhd jdm 300zx and now this gem. -
Well boys the addiction got me again. In the late 50's when Willys discontinued the CJ3B, Mitsubishi continued their own production of it designated J54. It has dana 44/30 axles with 4.77 gears, but mitsubishi offered it with a diesel engine. I am now the proud owner of a 1979 Mitsubishi j54 jeep with the 4DR5 non-turbo Diesel and a 4 speed manual. It has 32,000 original km which is just shy of 20,000 miles. can't wait to start getting her cleaned up and start driving, 40mpg will be nice too. Right now the only plans are to add a roll bar, bikini top, and some new wheels and tires

got all of our parts in. Gotta figure out how to get the carb to mount to the intake manifold and do some wiring.

Don, Mr Hurley at HESCO is actually the one that told me about it. You saw first hand when you went to get the tailgate from my dad. MJ junkie. I'll get the casting number from my dad and some pictures soon. I am out of the country at the moment and all my mjs are at my dads place.

I know all the forums say you cannot put a wj motor in an mj because the motor mounts are in different spots. WJ motors do fit in mjs with hardly any modification. The bosses are there for the xj motor mounts. I had to put a spacer in for one of the bolts on one side and shave about 1/4 inch from one of the bosses on the other side. I used the factory 88 intake, dizzy, and sensors. still working on the accessory drive. But the wj motor does infact fit and you don't have to spend $400 on brown dog adapters. will try and get pictures posted for you guys soon.

Well i needed new mirrors anyway. And they were about the same price so i figured why not. I'm happy with them. They stick out a little further so i can see a bit more. I will probably end up doing something like that with my floor -
It's amazing what a little wet sanding and some acetone will do
