2015 Jeep Renegade

I feel like there are many Jeep purists here so what do y'all think of the new Jeep Renegade? Personally I think its not that bad, although it should be called the Jeepster . It has the round lights, 7 slot grill and looks capable to some extent off road. It's supposed to come with a 9 speed diesel for the US and turbo 4 so we'll see. It certainly looks better than the new Cherokee in my opinion. Here is the link: http://truckyeah.jalopnik.com/2015-jeep-renegade-could-be-the-9-speed-diesel-cute-ute-1535164448

When I first saw this, I just about puked.  I'm not a fan of badge engineering with any company, especially Jeep.  To call this turd a Renegade is an insult to Jeep heritage!

IMHO, Jeep ought to be treated like the true iconic brand it is, much like Harley. You don't see H-D making scooters, ATV's, dirt bikes and sport bikes - just cruisers.  That's what they do and they do it very well.  They learned from their attempt in the 60's & 70's with badge engineered Aermacchi smaller displacement bikes.  Later, when they diversified into sport bikes, they did it under another brand name - Buell. (And a brief ownership of MV Agusta.)

I think Chrysler/Fiat ought to leave the car-like stuff to their car badges and leave Jeep in a off-roader's off-road rig arena.  You don't see them diluting their Ram or Ferrari brands with cheesy little hamster cars. Besides, every badge engineered Jeep of the 21st century is uglier than the Dodge - or in this case Fiat - it shares a platform with.

At least when AMC made AWD cars, they didn't put Jeep badges on them.

Great point! I have always thought it was just the corporate world pushing Jeep in this direction and they were making what they could out of the situation. I wish Jeep would lean more towards their roots.

This contraption is based on the 500. The 500 is competing with the Mini and the Land Rover for worst car in America.

The 2014 Patriot has a new 6spd auto as an alternative to the crappy CVT. Although it is car based it is by far the best in its class off-road. The Patriot will likely stick around

From what I read the Renegade will not get the 9spd due to its physical size. This thing is tiny

don't be suprised if you see a Jeep CAR in the near future  .. This thing just puts them one step closer.

If we could only be so lucky. I wish they would stop dancing around it and do it.

I want to see a Jeep car that could take on a Subaru WRX... That kind of style. AWD, have a sedan and a wagon, small mill with some power behind it, with some style.

It will have the 9 speed , and the engines will most likely be the 2.4 multiair Tigershark, and maybe the 1.4 Multiair turbo , with a possible diesel option. This thing is just taking the place of the Compass Patriot, its not like we are getting another incapable Jeep.  I agree some Subaru competitors would be cool as long as they are done right. I still love the look of the Eagles... a regular car, but with bigger wheels and tires and 4wd. As a kid I thought those things were badass. My grandfather had one at one point, also had a Cherokee Cheif (SJ) as well, but we didnt go around him much when I was young so I really didnt get to know or ride in those vehicles. They are just ingrained into my psyche though. Anyways, I think too much is being made of this. When they finally announce that the next Wrangler will be full independant suspension, then we can freak out!

Kill me for saying it, but I like it. I was having a debate with a friend of mine about this Jeep just this morning. I am all for Jeep creating vehicles that dominate every segment in sales, refinement, and overall quality. And yes, that includes cars. I agree with the AWD WRX chaser. That would be pretty damn impressive. I think people get hung up on the classic Jeep and what once was. Unfortunately for all of us, government standards and regulations are fueling most of these changes. I commend the people at Jeep for doing something different and pushing the boundaries. Yes, it is most certainly hard to take in all at once but I like it better than the new Cherokee. With a size comparable to the YJ and something like 16 different drivetrain configurations its pretty adaptable. On Jeep's website there are a few images that look better than the Anvil painted Trailhawk (horrible color btw).

I really think its going to be a success and if it offers impressive mpg's and is 4x4 (even if its not a traditional 4x4 system) I'm all in. I think the thing people tend to forget is that the p215 tires this is coming with are the same size as what XJ's and YJ's were offered with way back when. I think in stock form it would hold its own against those two rigs. Obviously mod wise there is no possible way to argue which is better as I doubt many manufacturers are going to offer parts for these. But they might, who knows. Maybe with a small lift kit and some 31's it would look more proportionate? Like I said, I am all for the new direction Jeep is going and the boundaries they are pushing. Truth be told, if they catered to us diehard Jeep fans and gave us what we have been asking for most of us would not open our wallets and buy it. Its a smart move on Jeep's part and I hope it does well. If the company does well we might very well get that new Jeep pickup we have been asking for. Think of the bigger picture! Oh, and a price tag of 15-20K new is something to consider as well.

I'm going to go shoot myself in my face now

Really, in all seriousness, even if Jeep made a niche vehicle to appease you and everyone like you, would you even open your wallet to purchase it? Chances are probably not and It makes no sense from a business standpoint to manufacturer inexpensive/expensive niche market vehicles when you are trying for a global profit share. People do not seem to realize that CAFE standards are based on the ENTIRE carbon footprint of a manufacturer, not an individual model. With that being said, by them producing an efficient, low emissions, high mpg vehicle it is in fact saving the Wrangler. If things kept going the way they were the Wrangler would end up with independent suspension, a unibody, and a smaller engine for a more efficient drivetrain with increased weight reduction. So everyone who is on about the smaller Jeep's just keep in mind it is very well saving the "true" Jeep(s) from the government chopping block. Just my .02.
