Wife Wanted A Headboard... Six Years Ago

Recommended Posts

... so I figured it'd be a good time to start. I started with 2" and 1.5" round tubing and 5/16" and 1/4" round bar. It's for a kind size bed so that means I've got a ton of real estate to work with. Did some notching... some cutting... fitting... welding... you know, headboard stuff.

Obligatory close up of a weld:

Planning on some wood work between the two lower tubes. Not sure how I plan on finishing it yet... probably something awesome though.

Another day on this. I added more to the scrolly, leafy things and added some formed channels to put the wood into. Other such headboard stuff as well...

Going to be some oak 1x2s stained the same color as the rest of the trim in the room.

Digging your anvil...I'm gonna have to snag a peice of wide flange drop from work now!

Yeah... it works okay. Every once in a while I have to tell myself to keep the hammer strikes to one side when I notice it starting to lean.

Threw some paint at it last night... update!

Why not add some vertical bracing inside? Weld a plate in between the flanges, up against the web?

Yeah... I know...

Anyhow, the wifey was all, "Hey, do you think it's possible to finish that headboard tonight?" Well, I needed a little help if that was going to happen so she took matters into her own hands.

And anyone who knows me knows that I really don't like working with wood. In fact, I'm pretty sure I have a grimace on my face just about everytime I have to touch the stuff.

Anyway... done and happy!

Why not a pine cone or ball filigree on the verticals? Would finish it off.

:agree:

Meh... something tells me it'll be left along just as it is. Not because it wouldn't look good, but more so figuring a laziness factor.

Alright... how's this excuse then: Robyn went to school for interior design and she's more than happy with it the way it is.  :D

In that case, if Mama's happy, everybody's happy.

Seriously Ben - good job.
