mountainman
So yesterday i manch'd my way on down to the local picApart for some more recon. Now that ive learned more i have quite a list of items id like to collect. #1 thing i was after was a pass side headlight surround. (handled) D44's were 2nd on my list. #3 was some 95-99 chevy truck shackles. Then anything else that caught my eye. There were approx 30 jeeps there and yet.. not ONE d44. WTF!!! AND... not ONE 95-99 chevy. W T F. So anyways i got to thinking, if any of you need anything let me know. I could go pull it for you and send it out. Here everything is VERY dry and so many of you who live in the rust belt could prob use stuff off of these XJ's and Mj's These guys at the yard don't give 2 shiites and as soon as a truck seems to have no more usefull stuff on it.. they crush it. Clean manche got crushed about 2 weeks ago. I was sad and held a burial ceremony. It lives on in that i have its hood on my manch. Your thoughts? Possibly make this thread into the "junk yard traders" thread. need a part post here and someone in some state can snag one if they know where one is. There is SO much stuff out there... its crazy. If we don't snag it, it will just go to scrap.
MiNi Beast
I like the idea and have done such deals with a few on here and other forums as well.
xjrev10
I'm in need of a short box! Las Vegas is only a 1750 mile drive! I know there is a such thing as a rust free box closer tho... And doors, OE fenders... The only body parts that we can get up here are fricken hoods!
mpace6a
This is a great idea! Especially for those of us here in the rust belt! And even better for us Missouri guys where, not only do the moisture and salt get us, but the darned soil is acidic and eats away at metal too! So far, I don't need anything, but would definately like to see this thread kept alive!

They also have some decently priced D44's. So i may get one from them when the time comes. :)
Comanche County
Here's a little tip for you fellas on JY Customer/Manager relations. When you find a nice rust free MJ in a yard, and plan to pull the box off of it and take half the frame to make a trailer, and while checking out you explain to the JY manager what you're planning to do, he agrees and states the MJ will be there for at least another month, but when you depart the out door, the JY desk monkey checks your tool bag and finds a two year old thermostat in the bottom of the bag and then claims that you have to pay $1.99 for said thermostat....do not (as I did) transform yourself into Gordon Ramsey and unleash your full repertoire of colorful words on a hapless 19 year old. Then after the manager, which you just had a pleasant conversation with about your MJ plans, agrees with the kid, do not insult his manhood and family tree and embarrass him in front of all his subordinates and the other 25 customers in the office. What will result is....you will link up with another CC buddy (me and Backdraft) and visit the yard again to pillage the previously mentioned MJ, but as you search the yard, you will find that the MJ will no longer be in complete form and has been reduced to bits of small pieces of metal and is currently in the hold of an ocean freighter on its way to China. The only good that came out of it was that I got to keep my old thermostat and refused to pay the 2 bucks. The bad is that a decent MJ got scrapped out of spite, because I couldn't keep my mouth shut because some dumb kid accused me of stealing. :grrrr:

jimoshel
Sometimes the hardest thing in the world to do is hold your tongue. Unfortunately too often we don't realize it until it's to late. If you had just kept your temper and talked civil to the YM everything would of been OK. I'm on very good terms with the YM here. I go in the yard whenever without paying the $1 entry fee. Occasionally I slip him a $10 cigar and we BS awhile. I could probably walk out of the yard carrying 360 Jeep engine under my arm and he wouldn't notice. OK!! I exaggerate a little, but you get the point. Be nice to people. It pays.
dasbulliwagen
The mentioned Chevy truck shackles are the same length as stock MJ shackles, but just built heavier. The ones you need are Chevy truck DROP shackles to lower said truck. I know about the shackles becasue I had a friend give me some and I ended up lengthening them. The chevy truck shackles will however lift an XJ slightly, but not an MJ.

mountainman
Thanks bulli. I was just going off that list from on here, "junkyard upgrades". Guess it needs to be updated even more as to what parts are Xj specific. Or just taken down altogether and edited to remove the Xj stuff. I ordered some actual spacers and shackels to get me by for now. :)
Harley
I coulda told ya they didnt have jack and saved ya the trip lol  Great idea and all but everybody should know that an MJ shows up in a yard here only about once every couple months or so and I believe they keep em for a month or two and crush em no matter what is left on em. johnr
going off on the junk man is almsot as bad as smarting off to a cop, yelling at the waitress before she brings out your order or telling your wife, yes that dress dose make you look fat.

She looked me in the eye and informed me she was naked, and then accused me of never paying attention to her anymore. :shake:

I just bluntly correct the person's behavior, and don't always curse. Whenever I see someone picking on someone else, bullying someone, making fun of disabled people, littering, stealing, trying to rip me off, Doing something stupid and dangerous that could hurt someone, etc. Not a bad guy at all, but I won't hesitate to jack someone up if they need it. Guess its just the crazy vet in me. sorry for the hijack.
snakedoc67
I definately like this idea since MJ's are rare in the JYs here, but plenty of 4 door ZJ/WJs and a few XJs.

There are always XJ's at both locations and occasionally MJ's. I would be glad to pull needed parts. Let me know! Later, Larry
Dave Stark
Vegas does have a lot of turn over, i lived there when the cash for clunker pandemic was happening & visited the various JY's almost weekly with nothing ever staying the same for two weeks in a row... Don't forget JW Jeeps out by Sacramento, supposedly the largest Jeep junk yard... In the world. If they are to be believed.
