HOrnbrod
I want the 86 swoosh 4x4 graphics in gray and silver. Like these Nice choice. Don't forget the chrome tow hooks.
shelbyluvv
Those are coming as well. Not sure about the rear bumper. I am thinking a chrome double tube. But, the front is black. Decisions...
shelbyluvv
Today I dug out my favorite piece. I've been hoarding this for a few years. I have to give thanks to Adam for this as well. Today I installed my MJ specific Visor. I also put a tire a carrier in the bed.
DirtyComanche
I've always liked the look of the visor.

Red88Comanche
Hello your swap/build is very helpful. I have a 95 dakota with the 5.9/ a518 with a little work done. Under the hood the wiring is already been cleaned up. I am considering just swaping the interiors to but really like the mj gauges. You spliced in the xj dash with the basic lights wiring correct? Or did you go between the mj ,xj ,wj? I just trying to decide on either the whole dakota harness or splice the 2. Thank you for any advice thats a great looking set. O did you kill the dana 35 yet? lol
shelbyluvv
I spliced in the ZJ under hood harness to a 94 XJ under hood harness. I used a 94 XJ interior harness, gauges and a 92 MJ fuel sender in the tank. The MJ rear harness is adapted to the XJ interior harness.
Red88Comanche
You don't by chance have pictures of the motor mounts do you?
shelbyluvv
Stock 93 ZJ V8 mounts. I did make a 1" drop for hood clearance. If I cut a hole or get a cowl hood the engine would clear without the drops. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
Red88Comanche
Is that the frame mounts? Just worried the the frame mounts for the 4.0 won't hold up.
shelbyluvv
Yes, frame and engine mounts are both factory ZJ V8 mounts. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
Red88Comanche
Those brackets seem to be the hardest to find. Maybe a dealer item I can get the rest. I may give in and buy a donor jeep for parts. I have a built motor for it with a518.
shelbyluvv
Junkyards are full of ZJs. There are at least 15 in my local yard. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
Red88Comanche
I am to the wiring and holy crap. The mechanical is easy but this wiring sucks.
shelbyluvv
Look up "five wires to fire". Once you figure out that the ecu only need a few hots and a couple grounds it is easy.
Red88Comanche
Thats good but I'm using the whole harness from the dakota. Under dash to. Trying to get the ignition right so i can use the jeep column. I figure if i can get it to start i can sit with a volt meter and do the instrument cluster. May need manual gauges for the basics you know.
Green Mesa XJ
Great build! Enjoying reading through it. Long time lurker, find lots of great info here but don't have a MJ so never signed up. Notice something that might help somebody out, on the tachometers in the 91-95-(96?) instrument clusters Chrysler changed where the input comes from to the computer. So you can throw a 91 up cluster from a 6cyl in a 4 cyl and it will work accurately, I think this is why when wired correctly it reads the v8 correctly as well. You guys probably already know about this, I'm always messing with the wiring on the 85 xj and never mess with the 91-92 xj so didn't know until recently the input for the tach changed. Anyway I'm enjoying reading about these old MJ builds, love seeing the old 2.8, 2.5 jeeps that never get any respect getting built up. Cheers! Red88Comanche
Ok I gave up the idea of headers. It is in but how did you get the oil pan to clear the steering drag link and stabilizer?
shelbyluvv
It clears fine with a 6.5" lift

neohic
Might've missed it, Bo... what are you plans for a radiator? Looks like there would be interference with the steering box should you plan to be using the ZJ unit, yes? I'll be starting a 5.2 swap on my '86 soon as well. shelbyluvv
Ben, the radiator is a 2 core aluminum deal for a Chevy. I had to have the fill neck extended to clear the radiator support and the lower outlet straitened to work with the Magnum. http://www.cfrperformance.com/CFR_ULTRACOOL_ALUMINUM_RADIATOR_CHEVY_22_x19_p/hz-40010.htm
neohic
What are your thoughts on a three core XJ/MJ radiator? I've got a nearly new copper three core in my XJ and I'm overly tempted to use it. Found an old build thread on another thread and the guy used a two core with his 5.2 swap... claimed it cooled it fine with a couple electric fans. I can't help but doubt. shelbyluvv
It should work fine. I live in hotter climates so I went with a bigger radiator.
