arod Posted January 14, 2012 Share Posted January 14, 2012 Whats up guys? Currently an 08 jk owner on a 3.5in lift with 37s. I'm looking into buying an mj and i have two options right now and i need help choosing I have an option to buy one which is 4wd, I6, 5spd rusted pretty bad with 100k and the other has no rust but is 2wd with 200+k 5sp. Which would be a better platform to start with? I'm mechanically inclined and can also do body work. Opinions needed please. Jeep Driver Posted January 14, 2012 Share Posted January 14, 2012 I don't buy rust. My 4x MJ was a 2X but rust free and other that the bed have some dents the cab and front end is dent free. I like bodywork more then mechanical but these trucks get out of control when it come to rusting away. Its very easy to make these 4wd and if the miles worry you that can be fixed by putting a low miles motor in when you swap in the 4wd stuff. camjeep3 Posted January 14, 2012 Share Posted January 14, 2012 since you want to make it your wheeler id buy the rust free 2wd. when you wrench on it you won't have to deal with the crust, and you will be able to swap in whatever axle/ratio you choose. if the higher mileage motor goes, used motors are not hard to find Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I’m a newbie to this group but not to Jeeps in general. I have 13 Willys trucks in my stables along with a 2006 LJ Rubi. Three of mine are direct ancestors of the XJ Waggy.
