That article was from October 2001. I didnt realize that either but after I read the article, I do remember reading something to that effect back then but at that time (i was in 8th grade) who had every really heard of bin laden :dunno: Specifically people my age that don't remember the Gulf War conflicts.

Ya, and GW rejected that offer, probably with reasonable grounds. Who knows how long it would have taken them to turn over OBL, and in the meantime it would have bought them time or possibly allowed them to remain in power. Afghanistan could have continued on being a Taliban run and Al Qaeda foothold even after turning over OBL.

 

On the other hand we would have had him and who knows what kind of intel we would have gotten out of him, or how many other terrorists plots we would have stopped. He could have been sequestered away and slowly rotted to death in a dark cell, its possible now that him being dead(and one reason not to release the photos) that he becomes a matyr figure.

 

Course anything like that is such rampant speculation that its moot to try and discuss it really.

We (we being the 15th MEU) had him in our sights in Dec 01. I was with the 15th MEU and was one of the first Marines on the ground with the 03s. The initial invasion is long forgotten history. But, I remember it like it was yesterday.

I've flown in a lot of MH-60s, in fact every rotary wing A/C JSOC had up until 2002 when I left 2/75 RGR, that's not from a regular MH60, definitely new. Maybe a "Comanche" helicopter that never went into production. Its good to be in a JSOC unit, they get all the toys.

I think that with Al Kite-a acknowledging he be dead means he be dead. How do I know he is dead? On 5/2/11 I went out to try to get a grape squishy at the quickie mart. The doors were locked and the sign taped in the window said "Closed due to death in the family."
