Comanche County
It's 1005 miles to Savannah, I've got a full tank of gas, half a can of Copenhagen, it's almost dark, my sunglasses are too scratched to wear at night, I'm hitting it! Making the I20 ride in the Manche, wish me luck.

jvd
Have faith in the old MJ! Bought mine in St Louis and drove it back to Philly non-stop (besides fuel), no problem.
kyleag89
Do you drive your MJ daily? Has it ever left you stranded before? Only thing that ever left me stranded was a starter, quick hit with a ratchet strap I had got her going again. I once drove from New York city to Gettysburg, PA with a DW! deziped
I'd drive mine across states (2700 miles) if I had a reason to do it and wouldn't blink an eye. I would carry my title though just in case I did have to unload it. Just to visit my daughter is 800 round trip and I done that several times . Of course the MPG sucks.. MJRemi
This is weird! Just this morning I drove about 90 miles to pick up anAX15 (one way) and on the way back I was wondering how many CC members drive their MJs long distance. My 89 has never broken down but it still is a 22 yr old truck. Then I wondered how many of us would drive long distance without a cell phone or similar communication device. Just that that was weird after reading this post! :hmm:
Comanche County
Better get more Copenhagen :D Roger that - Done! This is actually the Manche's second trip from TX to GA although this one will/should be one way. It's never left me stranded, ever, except when I ran it out of gas a few times in CO back in 08' when we couldn't sell our old house and were paying for two and I couldn't afford $4.00 gas. Little problems have popped up but they've always happened in the driveway so it's been good to me. I'd drive it to Alaska without worry, knock on my faux woodgrain instrument bezel I'll make it to GA ok. I still have to get by the casinos in Jackson and Vicksburg. The Horseshoe in Shreveport just took $200 from me, but I won it back plus $60...then I got the heck out of there!
streetjeep2.5
Mines 87 2.5 4x2 is a DD. Usually at least 2 times a week I drive 50 or more round trip. Never a hick-up until my engine broke a ring in #3, which I am pretty sure was caused by the header from Clifford I put on. The one tube was only about 1/2 and inch away from where the head gasket was at #3, and the ring broke and hurt my cyl wall on that side, and the head gasket was black right there, and the head bolt was covered with baked on gunk. I think being in that confined high heat area and that close ... Anyway, stock exhaust manifold. Header is in the scrap iron. Was a problem anyway. It touched the block at the pan boss and I had to pound it in to clear and Clifford took it back and tried to reshape it but that didn't work, and said since they already "modified" it at my request, it was not under warranty. Never did accept responsibility for having made it wrong in the first place. I will never buy from them again.

Comanche County
I made it - at least to my intermediate objective Atlanta to do some holiday shopping. I spoke too soon about breaking down. The alternator went out. The volt meter was reading about 9v but I managed to get an hour further down the road to Meridian, MS. The yellow top optima really payed off. I think a lesser battery would have died after an hour of driving with headlights on and 600w on two 10" subs cranking. I picked up a new alternator at O'reilly's ($106) right when they opened at 7:30 this morning made a swift parking lot repair and was back on I20 by 8:30. Mule13, I'm moving back to GA. I'm leaving the MJ here, flying back after Christmas and then driving the ZJ from TX.

88pioneer
:agree: On the yellow top. The one in my XJ got it home twice with no alternator. It bit the bullet after that though, I was pretty pleased with that

87Warrior
I think the club needs to organize a cross country trek in a few years. Travel together, meet as we go, and convoy to a destination we can all agree upon. Then it would truly be MJs across America. Moab would be a neat destination, but only a few rigs are set up for that. Colorado trail running would be fun! Plus we could all stay at Jims place  After my build is done, I plan on taking a long vacation/camping trip across multiple states with my trusty MJ. Columbus and Savannah....I'll send you a pm. Best of luck too you man! Obrian's Pub is going to miss ya! :waving:. Yeah and my stinkin dad stole my official O'briens Tshirt too. We need to make an "Official MJs across America" thread with pics of MJs in iconic locations around the country. Needs to have pics like an MJ at the Statue of Liberty, on top of Pike's Peak, under the St. Louis Arch, on Golden Gate Bridge - at Billy Bob's in Fort Worth (yee haw)...you get the point. I intended to take some cool pics of my MJ at the different State lines and then on the bridge over the Mississippi and get it started, but it didn't happen. I prefer to drive at night, less traffic and I blew through the state lines without even noticing. Plus after the pic at the Horseshoe, I realized night pics with the Iphone is a waste of time. Here's the few I did snap and they're pretty lame: Leaving my beloved Comanche County: At the Horseshoe in Shreveport: Replacing the Alternator in Meridian, MS:
