well the MJ to XJ production was like 1 in 10 . . . So i do see where the rareness of them comes into play.

There 2 times as many Dakotas to MJ's and 4 times more Rangers and S-10's to Dakota's . . . But in the 86'-92' year range there seem's to be twice as many surviving MJ's compared to the other 3 mini trucks . . .

:smart: So i would have to say the MJ's survival rate is by far higher

:dunno: I could be wrong tho :smart:

Well I could see that based on 2 things.

1. The MJ was lighter empty and had the same or slightly higher GVW n GCW as the other 3, making the payload higher.

2. The MJs 2.5 n 4.0 made more power then the 4 n 6 cylinder engine options the other 3 had in that time frame.

AMC-2.5L = 86' 117hp / 135tq 87'-90' 121hp / 140tq 91'-93' 130hp / 150tq.

GM-2.8 86' 115hp / 140tq.

AMC-4.0L 87'-90' 177hp / 220tq 91'+ 195hp / 235tq.

VM 2.8L turbo diesel 140hp / 236tq export only.

Renault 2.1L diesel 85hp / 132tq US market.

What was the GM Ford n Dodge engines for 86-92 ?

Yes, you are correct on all counts about performance, but with all that came a slightly higher price tag and a lot less AMC dealers across the country than the "big three", then when Chrysler bought Jeep they just kinda kept building them while they were putting together the Dakota because they sold moderately well, but they didn't like putting a pickup out there that didn't say "Dodge" on it's grille, so the death knell was sounded on the Comanche. Anybody feel free to correct me if I'm wrong....

I think there was some Customer loyalty issues as well . . . the 86'-88' the MJ numbers steadily increased 89'-92' the number's dropped off, I think the "OMG Jeep is owned by some one else" fear caused the MJ to take a sales Hit . . .

CryCo saw it as competing with themselves and discontinued the "other" brands truck's . . .

Had GM of bought them AMC would have prolly continued to run as AMC

it would have been " AMC Buick Chevrolet GMC Oldsmobile Pontiac Jeep" dealer . . . :clapping: you know i'm right . . .

I could have swore I read this somewhere, but didn't MJ have a better payload, towing, and performance rating than ALL of the other competing mid-size pickups of that generation?

The Comanche was the ONLY mid-size truck of its early era... The S-series and Rangers were both mini-trucks at that point.. and the Japanese just built toy trucks at that time.

I used to be an engineer for Chrysler, but we all know how well that works.

Yup can't figure it out Buy up somebody who has it figured out or the ability to figure it out ;)

The all RAM front suspension of 94'+ ? funniest thing looks just like the same design AMC had in 1984, well it came on 84'+ XJ's and all MJ's . . . so it prolly was designed about 82ish . . .

I used to be an engineer for Chrysler, but we all know how well that works. So now I am an engineer for a defense contractor, and I get to play in tanks everyday. :clapping:

That wouldn't be Raytheon by any chance, would it?
