shelbyluvv
I will be taking one of these (not this one) (I found the pic on the web) And building it into this. This truck will have a 4.7 V8 (WJ or Dakota drive train), D44 and 9" combo (small Bronco), 8" lift, 36" tires, and 97+ interior from a XJ donor. Likes, dislikes? freakjeep93
how are you gunna be able to put the 2nd set of doors in without modifying either frame or bed?
shelbyluvv
how are you gunna be able to put the 2nd set of doors in without modifying either frame or bed? The bed will be cut up. A lot actually. The frame will not be cut in half and stretched. Nor will a XJ or MJ be cut in half and welded together. Wait for the build thread and all will be revealed. This will be a 2+ year long project. Don't expect to see it come together in a timely manner.
HOrnbrod
That will be a great rig and keep the same wheelbase - I likee. I might go to rear 3/4 or 1/2 doors though strictly for aesthetics. Sure would like to see it photochopped for both designs............

89eliminator
would be cooler with a 7ft bed.
WBKrazy
i say go for the fullsize doors in the back, everyone does 1/2's and it'd be cool to see one done differently...
shelbyluvv
I thought about smaller doors. It does look a tad better. But, there would be zero leg room back there. This truck will be our tow rig/family truckster for going to shows and other events. My interest are changing again. I am over the whole wheeling thing for awhile. I want to broaden my fab skills by making things I have always wanted. A Comanche sport trac (of sorts) is one of them. I learned so much while building Onyx. It has fueled my passion for over building vehicles again.
pingpong
Personally I would like to use a 2dr XJ for the front, and then graft the rear of a MJ onto it. I know ppl say the 2dr and 4 dr are the same but the longer doors on the front would look nice.

It is something I just can't shake. I do not enjoy body damage or breaking parts. The shiny paint and clean interiors get me going.

FXWorks
I messed around with a similar idea a few years ago. I think I used Pete's old truck as the starting point. Below is what I came up with while trying to balance proportion with usefulness. IIRC the front of the box was shortened and the rear doors are long enough to use the bottom front door window molding. I'm guessing you might be able to use 2 door window glass. Excuse the roughness of the photoshop; it was a brain storming exercise, not for publication. :) What you have in mind might be easier to fabricate if I follow what you are going to try. shelbyluvv
Just figured I would let you all know... I am doing this. I will be picking up a donor XJ in a couple weeks to start the build. There will not be a whole lot of pics until I get the cab is mostly finished and into primer. It should only take me a month or three to get the cab whipped into shape. I have something special planned for the roof. http://www.streetbeatcustoms.com/Streetbeatcustoms/Ragtops-Sunroofs/Sliding-Ragtop-40-x-55-Inches/557562/ I am going to have a blast with this one! Wish us luck!
