I wish I had taken a picture of my cheap OEM immitation muffler that literally was falling apart after only 4 years. I went with a Walker, but I am certain any name brand FlowMaster, Cherry Bomb would outlast the cheapy immitations.

4 years out of a muffler is GREAT where you aren't in sun and smog for 300+ days a year. Wet weather and road salt do a real number on them. I generally get about 2 and a half to 3 years out of one.

I got a Holley Red Hots from Farm and Fleet(the other half of that partnership) for 20 bucks for my ZJ. Sounds pretty good on the 5.2. But I didnt really like the sound on the 4.0L. The tone was too flat.

 Yes no salt out here in California (except on a Margarita) where an OEM or name brand muffler has lasted me as much as 15 years, I would imagine in your area where the conditions are so harsh a name brand replacement would be essential if you wanted or cared if a muffler lasts or not.

Personally, I go to Auto Zone and buy an OEM replacement from Walker. The muffler has a lifetime warranty so the one I bought six years ago is the last one I'll ever buy.

I had a Thrush "Redhed" glasspak on my XJ for less than a yeay before it burned out and the inner tube (baffle) broke loose on each end. It sounded okay, but after it died, my XJ sounded like a tractor, literally. We have videos where you can hear it, and it sounds like a damn farmtractor, right down to the rrrRRRRR when you hit the gas. On a good note, it did hold up to getting abused quite heavily and often on the trails and rocks. My MJ is running a Thrush "Turbo style" muffler, and it sounds nice, and is not overly loud, either, even after several offroad trips.

Haha! Mine has a similar problem with broken baffles (after inexplicably denting the downward side of the muffler) but its when downshifting to come to a stop. Backpressure just right and its rrrrrBARRRRRRRpoppitypoppitypop as the bottom of the muffler visibly vibrates (had it checked at last oil change... was good for a few laughs). No cat since emissions aren't required in this county... no idea what happened to it.

I have had a number of mufflers and I seem at always go back to a "turbo" style. Pick your poison, there are a number of makers. I have used the Dynomax, Magnaflow, Thrush and tried to buy the Gibson. Jegs fumbled my order three times so I told them to stick it!

The cherry bomb is durable and cheep. But gets obnoxiously loud as the time passes. Its cheap and durable that's about it.

And has one of the thickest necks out there for welding.......

got the cherrybomb glasspack welded on today. Sounds very similar to the online clips of the flo master 40's, but i'm sure its different in real life. Note on the cherrybombs (had this on my comanche too) they smell for a little bit while the paint seems to bake on (if this makes any sense). $25.49 at Fleet Farm (even comes with the sticker 4 extra HP!)

yeah, even tho i have some cash, just can't justify the $60-80 for a new muffler. I'll stick with the cheapies. My manche was catless, I swear it just fell off :brows: (with the help of some power tools)
