I welcome them also. Like i said once we were all new somewhere.

And one of my rules is "The only stupid question is the one not asked."

I would rather have someone ask about death wobble for the 3,000 time than have them be afraid because we roasted the last guy on a fire for asking a question already answered, than not ask and end up with catastroptic failure.

We are here to help. Lets do it. If it bothers you move on, and someone else will have the chance to lend a hand.

yep, I agree with Jim

Thats funny because you posted while I was typing and I think we are the only 2 who don't mind the posts.

Make it 3 ;) . If you see a title that bothers you, why can't you just skip it :dunno: . This reminds me of what my granpa always said - just because the phone rings it doesn't mean you have to answer it. <- that and grab me another beer ~ don't let your mom see you.

*shrug*.

I didn't mean that they are stupid posts...just repetitive.

I'll help you guys out, but honestly how many seat bracket posts do we need on here?

how many "what do u think of RC" posts do we need?

you'll get the same info each time.

IDK about u guys, but when I join a new forum, I read the rules. and I ALWAYS search before I post a question.

I have never had good luck with searches. they search all the words in the posts so i just get a whole bunch of random posts even if i bracket the words or put them in parenthesis and it really doesnt help much because then i have to try and sift through everything.I think i "Common issues" thread that is closely watched so no "junk" posts get put in them is in the best order. It works really well on other forums i am a member of

Hey Chico and Jim;

Couple of questions. I tries the search function for about ten seconds and couldn't find any answers:

1. What rear end do I have?

2. What's the biggest tire I can fit on my rig?

3. What is the strange noise when I'm going backward?

4. How can I get more power? Better mileage?

5. What color is my MJ?

6. Why does my truck slow down going uphill?

7. Why is my driveshaft short now after a 10" lift?

8. Where can I find a new truckbed?

9. Will an 01 XJ engine work in my 87 Renix? AND

10. How much is my MJ worth?

I expect accurate answers to all questions within ten minutes max, and I will not say thanks after you provide them.

Let me handle this-

1. What rear end do I have? - You don't, your truck is FWD

2. What's the biggest tire I can fit on my rig? 37" with lowering blocks

3. What is the strange noise when I'm going backward? The blood curdling screams of "chrome blind" traffic

4. How can I get more power? Better mileage? Take the Bus

5. What color is my MJ? 'Bama Chrome

6. Why does my truck slow down going uphill? It has to do with the magnetic poles switching

7. Why is my driveshaft short now after a 10" lift? Nah, the lift just makes it look smaller

8. Where can I find a new truckbed? The Govt has a warehouse full of complete crated MJ's left over from the war - just need to know the right people

9. Will an 01 XJ engine work in my 87 Renix? Is it stamped Liter or CI?

10. How much is my MJ worth? A lot more with polarized glasses 8)

As best I can:

1. D-something.

2. Sawzall says about 54". But I think I could find you something bigger.

3. The wind

4. Sell truck, buy something with an LS1 in it

5. Silver, but it might be red

6. You forgot to engage cruise control, duh

7. Basic geometry, think Grade 3

8. A junkyard

9. Yes

10. Put it on ebay and find out

I'm very helpful.

Darn, Drahcir495 beat me to it.

On the search page, in the lower right side you'll see

"Display results as: -Posts -Topics"

Are you clicking on "Topics"?

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I'm seriously laughing so hard I'm crying right now. And you would have had your answer in ten minutes but I kept trying to use the search function to find an answer to number 5. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

And if anyone wants to volunteer to make and maintain a sticky post that organizes links to various existing threads (so that we can easily link back to them when someone asks), I'm all ears.

if nobody else has stepped forward, i'll volunteer.

go for it! I like the way this one is set up, so make it your starting point:

http://www.lostkjs.com/forum/phpBB2/vie ... hp?t=24961

You don't have to copy it exactly, but just know that it is what I'm thinking of.

This will be a sticky in the DIY forum, so post it there (I'll sticky it after you post). Also, with a project this big, we should probably put something in the Pub asking for member input. We're looking for threads that contain lots of good info. Another tool in our bag is that I can merge old threads if necessary.

It's a LOT of work and doesn't have to be done tomorrow, so pace yourself. You don't have to do all the work, just organize the efforts. :chillin:

Hey Pete.

I don't think posting it in DIY is gonna do much.

because THAT at least is justifiably somewhere a new member wouldn't know where to look.

how about combining "forum problems and website ideas" and "testing..1...2" to be "Forum Problems, Website ideas, and Testing"

then just add a subforum on the main page right below Tech which is called "Common Tech issues and Concerns"

then lock all threads which get moved into that subforum so that the topics don't get off point...but set it up to be easily viewed.

I would volunteer to maintain something of that nature...it would be very easy, and EXTREMELY accessible.

plus search for things of that nature would be easier...just select to search ONLY "Common Tech Issues and Concerns"

just an idea lol...

See, here's what I mean about repetitive questions. I was extremely bored for the last two hours and rememered a post that JT was explaining to me how to sand ma truck and with what. I just tried searching for the last hour but can't for the life of me find the thread that we were talking about it in, and I tried all sorts of silly combinations to find it again. I mean I'll find it eventually, but man, what a huge waste of time.

I searched for you as "author", in the "Tech" forum, and viewed results as "topics" (not posts). Then I scrolled down a page or 2 and opened up threads that might have to do with paint. Took about a minute.

Could have saved yourself some time by just asking. :D

Well, I think the search function is great. It's largely the reason I didn't sign up right away. I got an MJ, found this site, started reading and researching problems I was facing and all the cool dudes here had already answered most of my questions. But about 6 months later or so, I signed up,,,,mostly after realizing that most of you were as obsessed and crazy as I am. Had I joined right away, I'd probably have over 1000 posts.

I don't mind the repeated posts at all. This site is much more welcoming than other (XJ focused) sites out there. You know which one,,,its a pain in the @$$ to search, if you're not a member, then you have to do it through the google backdoor. This site is great, :smart: if we start treating people like their newbie questions are a PITA, then it will go downhill. The site is welcoming, basic and easy, and entertaining. I live in a Hi-Speed internet dead spot, but I can get everything on this site even with 44 mbs. I can't get streaming video to come through without waiting for hours so I come here for tech stuff and to get a fix on chuckles.

Everyone started somewhere, sometime and didn't know jack, don't push them away! Think back when you first looked under the hood of your MJ and thought "man, that's a lot of crap". At least I did, now thanks to the tech articles and cool attitudes here, I look at the engine bay and know exactly what everything is.....almost.

I Love you Man!
