shelbyluvv
As seen in the rules sticky at the top of the Tech Forum. It is stated as one of Pete's suggestions, -Please PM people if it turns out you have something that they need rather than hocking your cheesy wares where all can see. When I was instated as a Moderator, one of the things I was asked to do was nicely enforce this by Pete. I have sent numerous PMs to folks and have asked them tactfully to not post things for sale in the Tech Forums. I am posting this and asking for your cooperartion in ensuring that the Tech forums stay just that, Tech. If you have something to sale please PM the person. Thanks for your help with this, Bo. JeepcoMJ
I think this should only apply to vendors. sometimes the people may (or may not) be interested and others may become interested. I know I don't mind having people go somewhat off-topic in my threads, and if I don't wish to purchase but others do and keep it to pm's by that point in time, that's just fine IMHO. I believe you once said that sometimes you just don't venture that far south in the forum, maybe others don't see the classifieds too often. I totally understand where Pete is coming from, as I do with you. It is a suggestion he has asked us to try and keep in check. So I will do as he asks of me. I at one time did not check all the forums. I do now, and I help with what I can. If someone is actively looking for a part I am sure they will check the classifieds. JeepcoMJ
okay. consider number one complaint logged. would take it to pm, but it wouldn't make any difference then. this isn't the military and the rules are starting to get way too strict. I apologize for the means of disagreement, but you have my reason.
89eliminator
yeah, there should only be one rule... Rule #1) There are NO rules! :smart:

Pete M
I think this should only apply to vendors. sometimes the people may (or may not) be interested and others may become interested. I know I don't mind having people go somewhat off-topic in my threads, and if I don't wish to purchase but others do and keep it to pm's by that point in time, that's just fine IMHO. I believe you once said that sometimes you just don't venture that far south in the forum, maybe others don't see the classifieds too often. I don't mind it when threads go off topic either. Happens a lot around here. But I also don't understand why this shouldn't be seen as a simple separation of forums. Why shouldn't the classifieds stuff be in the classifieds? It's not like I'm suggesting that contact can't be made. Anyone can send a PM to the person that needs the stuff. All I'm saying is that it is my humble opinion that the Tech forum is not a place to advertise that one has stuff for sale. There's no threat of anything. No punishment if anyone keeps doing it. I've been reminding people about what goes where since we left the yahoo setup and finally had more than a single mishmash forum. I don't see this as anything different, although I admit I wasn't clear enough when I was first talking with shelby. I apologize for that and I think we've got it all straightened out. And yes, I made shelby a mod while I was in georgia and needed help. I also made Qui Gon-Jinn an admin. They need to be mods and admins in order to help out with tasks as they pop up. It's just the way the forum software is set up. We just had a bit of a teething problem and got off on the wrong foot. As I said earlier, I've been an "admin" for a while now, but that doesn't mean I've got enough experience to foresee every problem. I go to Eagle and Taz and other guys for opinions and guidance and then make a decision on whatever the matter may be. This particular one was my idea from the start. But with Jeepco's and others' opinions thrown into the pot, I think I've come up with a fair compromise. No? And as much as I like the concept of being a free spirit, there are always rules. Being friendly and keeping in mind that this is a family friendly site is rule number 1.
HOrnbrod
I have zero problems following the rules. :D This is a great forum and rules are necessary to continue this tradition. The moderators are doing their best to adapt the rules to be fair everyone, but of course this is impossible because of the increasing number of posters that ignore them for reasons only know to themselves, or think the rules are BS, or are too "military", and/or feel they are above the rules. I suggest we follow the moderators' guidance, respectfully offer suggestions, or quit whining.

I suggest we follow the moderators' guidance, respectfully offer suggestions, or quit whining. and yet, I still respectfully disagree wit this rule. I don't feel I'm above the rule, but the rule IS the only rule I have ever had a problem with, it's the only forum introducing said rule that I'm on or have seen. so, IF you're going to use a couple of snide jabs and/or directional sarcastic humour, perhaps just say what you mean and don't sugar coat it. At least everyone her knows I'm not going to sugar coat anything...I tell it like I see it. (funny, because I don't dislike you at all). Pete, I'm going to make it simple and follow the rule, but I feel it's just one more piece of baggage to add. I'm not a mod, I bet I will never be, and so I also bet that I'm not privy to the stress of running a growing forum. I just suggest not getting too militaristic, and if you still find the site stressful, find someone with a level head like hornbrod to help out, who actually has done something with the club and can prove a wealth of knowledge regarding the vehicle the site is for. Pete M
I do appreciate all the various opinions. Really I do. I always take every one into consideration. But it's impossible to give every individual the forums that they want. I can only provide one and everyone needs to share it. This includes the people that feel I'm too loose with the rules and the people that think I'm too strict. It's all about the love for the trucks and don't y'all forget it.. Everyone here helps out., Just because shelby is a mod doesn't mean I value his opinion any more than yours or hornbords. If I could take away those silly titles I would. He is simply more towards the other end of the spectrum as you on this topic and because of that, he is more passionate about enforcing the rules that we do have. That's why I asked him to help out with what he's doing. Because he likes to do it. :D We just needed to get on the same page about how to do it. Oh, and we now have a strict no-deleting policy. Mods may move, lock, or warn, but nothing is to be deleted (except for double posts and obvious stuff like that). I've set up a special "hidden" forum so anything that's really offensive can be moved there temporarily. It's a trick the more experienced members showed me. That way, when I sit down and open up the forums, I'm not deluged with angry PMs and have no clue as to what on earth happened. I seem to have hit a snag in that not all the mod people can see it, but we'll figure it out eventually. The menus that came with the forum software update are vast and complex and I may have done something wrong. Lord knows it's happened before and Lords knows it will happen again. Sometimes I pine for the days of the old forum setup that was nice and simple. But then I remember how many spammers we got every day and I remember what it took to delete each and every one... and then I no longer regret the upgrade. :D We haven't had a spammer since. Pat, nothing was directed to you, snidely, sarcastically, or otherwise. It's cool, I tell it like I see it too. If I thought you were a jerk, I'd say it. Don't be paranoid. My point was I think Pete and the other mods do a great job, unpaid, on their own time. I'm sure you agree.
Eagle
This forum has had classifieds for as far back as I can remember. It only makes sense that items for sale and items wanted should be posted under that umbrella. Pat, I don't know what other forums you frequent, but I'm an admin on another forum, and having people try to sneak blatant for sale posts into all the technical discussion areas (even though we have a more structured classified area than here) is a HUGE problem. The people who do it complain when they get their wrist slapped, and if we don't slap wrists ... the people whose threads get hijacked complain. There's no win-win solution to it. So ... we enforce the rule. For sale stuff goes in the classifieds.
BLHTAZ
Agreed...I Admin on one site and I am, or have been, a mod on a few other sites. This is a problem on all of them and is dealt with the same as here.
Drahcir495
Thanks to everyone for making this the best site on the World Wide Web  . We wouldn't be debating this if we didn't care. maddzz1
While i have no stance for or against the rule I would like to give my opinion. There have been a few times where someone will say I have a (insert part here) if you need one in a tech thread, I think the initial post can help because it might be something the person wasnt intending to sell until the original poster needed it. Maybe after the original "I have one" post it should be brought to PM.

shelbyluvv
Thank you everyone for the the support. We can give this a try. If the threads turn into a bunch of talk about anything other than tech, (IE- Price, shipping, or anything sales related) the thread will be locked. I will then allow the Godfather (Pete) make the call on weather to re-open it or clean it up. Like hornbrod said, we are volunteers. We are doing the mod duties because we have a love for these old trucks and this board. This is the single greastest wealth of MJ knowledge on the web, PERIOD! I do have a "military" prospective when it comes to the rules. I do not read in gray. I see things as they are written in black and white. Maybe it has something to do with my up bringing? :dunno: I will be as fair and tactful as I can be when giving out warnings. There are a few things that I will earn you a warning. 1. Being disruptive. This is a really relaxed board and it has that friendly feel to it that we all like. 2. Cussing, there is no place for it on the board. I have a 10 year old son who reads the board as much as I do. I am sure others have kids as well. Lets keep it clean. 3. Bashing someone in the classifieds for their asking price. It is not our place to tell them how much their stuff is worth. Kinda like the Jeff Daniels Jeep. If you don't like the price move on or PM them a counter offer. That is about it. Unless you do something totally off the wall. This is a very good club, let's enjoy it. I do have one last request for everyone. If you see something that you do not agree with, as in a rules violation, please report the post. We are not on here 24-7 and we do not catch everything. Again, thank you for your support!
