mvusse
Sorry to hear (read) about your luck. Between Jeepco and myself, who have also been hit in the back, although more on a side/back corner, I think you sustained most damage. Mine was just sheet metal, I don't know for sure what the extent was on Jeepco's truck. That leaf spring might be okay of you manage to get the shackle back to where it belongs. But from the lack of space between the bed and cab, I think the frame got bent. Now you have to decide if it is worth it to repair, if possible, or if you have a good start to make a truggy. And yes, that mangles piece of purple steel used to be his home made bumper. Too bad it seems the Honda went mostly underneath it instead of fully into it. Might have saved a lot of damage. project88mj
the pipe was 1/4 inch thick and double stacked look at how far it is bent  :grrrr:  they were going about 40-45 and didnt hit the brakes. no license no insurance and no english :headpop: worst part is being a full time student I have no job. everyone was okay thank the lord above  his angles were with us all funny part though was that there hood riped off and flew across 2 lanes, all the way to the grass on the other side of the road :clapping: my truck still ran fine and drove so i took out my towing chain and thrrew it around the axle of the mj and the hooked it onto the mangled mess and jerked the hell out of the car pulling it off the road burning out the whole way :clapping: almost riped the chain through the "frame" of the tiny car. :rotf:

HOrnbrod
So, in the US when you get hit by somebody without insurance, what happens? Dirty, we have what's called Uninsured Motor Vehicle coverage (it's optional here, but varies state by state) and your insurance company picks up the bill if you get hit. This you better have especially in a state like mine where motor vehicle insurance is not mandatory. Your insurance company will fix your vehicle if it's not your fault, then go after the idiot that hit you. It's happened a few times to us. :headpop:

Geonovast
Reminds me of when my Brother's 92 XJ got hit by the high schoolers in an Eclipse. Still drove that truck for 3 weeks before he found his 98. Glad to hear you're ok though. I know it's possible to straighten frames. Not sure what the cost would be, or if they can do it on one that's half unibody, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Jack up the frame and pry that shackle back down and see what you have. (BE CAREFULL!!! Its going to have a bit of force behind it if its not bent to badly!) Get a tape measure and start measuring one side to the other. Try to assess just how badly things are bent. CW
BLHTAZ
Damn dude... Did your head do this?? If so, I'll bet you have a stiff neck by now... From what I see in those pics...you will be lucky if $2500 covers it, but it will depend on how much you can do yourself.

JeepcoMJ
straightening the frame isn't gonna be terrible...but difficult all the same. you will need to place jackstands under the bend point...which is about 2" behind the cab. these need to be of a heavier duty variety, and fully extended. take the rear wheels off. the box needs to come off for this. then you need to anchor the front of the jeep to something HEAVY. your best bet with this is to remove your front bumper radiator support, grille, and radiator, then use some heavy duty tie down STRAPS (no chain it will buckle the front) to anchor the jeep through and around the front crossmember and to the sides to hold it down. take off the gas tank (obviously since you have the bed off it will be off anyways) and get someone who is handy with a torch (but not gung-ho to cut holes) to heat the bent sections. use some sort of ratchet straps or likewise, anchored to something heavy below the truck, to ratchet the frame down accoringly. gut the back of the interior, take seats out, and find a means to straighten the cab. fix the rear leaf...either replace the main leaf, or you may yet be lucky. this can be done yourself, but it will never be 100% accurate if done that way. I would feel comfortable doing it, but it's likely that your best bet is to take it to a body shop with a frame machine. it CAN be fixed, but will get very pricey. my best advice to you; DO NOT drive it in it's condition. the frame is bent AND twisted, and with the spring screwed up and the frame bent, your slip-yoke now has next to no slip. cheapest route...truggy time. if you decide to pursue that route, I'm interested in the bed. -Pat
