  1. Thank you. I'll give that a shot
  2. I drained and filled the AW4 with fresh fluid already. It does seem to get a bit better when it warms up. I'm currently using the cooler in my 3 row alum rad.
  3. My AW4 is a 93 XJ unit, but running complete drivetrain, harness, computers etc from the same XJ. I'm finding the shift patterns very annoying. When it shifts, it's not a soft or slipping shift, it just seems like it wants to hang out in lower gears at all times, or downshift at a gnat's fart. At about 1/3 throttle, it will go up to about 3k RPM, and hold, I have to back off the pedal a bit to get it to upshift. 1/2 shift is somewhat this way, the 2/3 shift is definitely the most reluctant. I tried adjusting the transmission cable many times according to the procedure, no dice. I thought maybe it was just underpowered with the stock gearing, but now with the 4.56s, it's not much better. Fluid is clean and full. Any ideas? Is it worth it for the Transgo shift kit? Or should I just buy a Nifty Shifter?
  4. Finally finished the shock mounts and the 8.8 swap/SOA is DONE! Taking it easy around town to break in the gears.
  5. My ignorance showing, but what's better about a good grinder? I took a welding class in high school like 12 years ago, but it was basically useless for any automotive welding applications. We were welding trailers, so 1/4" or thicker steel. I try to weld anything now and I just burn though

    Good looking truck! Welcome!
  7. I used 94 XJ (or 93+) AC components in my MJ for a "made for R134a" system.
  8. Also, taking suggestions for a new thread title. Don't feel like it's a beater any more.
  9. Yesterday marked two years since I resumed working on the Comanche. With two little boys, it seems like work rarely gets done, but I'm hoping to get the shock mounts welded on and have it back on the road by the weekend. Which means then it's time to pull the D30 and start the whole process over.
  10. Cool, what field are you pursuing?
  11. Nice truck, gotta support all the SC Comanche owners.
  12. Yeah I saw that this morning. No way it was that clean externally, falling apart frame wise. Kids these days
  13. On my 89, I had to drill the hole through the firewall for the floor shifter. It wasn't pre cut.
  14. Looking good!
  15. Thanks. I'd love to go to 33s now, but not at current prices
  16. Also debating flipping my white letters in. They've seen their better days. Also, I priced the same tire out of curiosity. They have gone up $50/ea wholesale price in the last 2 years. I paid something like $564 for 4 in 2020, now the same set would be very close to $800.
  17. This is how she's currently sitting. Now that I have the leaking fuel tank replaced, it's safe to weld the shock mounts on.
  18. Burning a little more midnight oil, I put my new fuel tank in last night. I can't remember if I put this in so far or not, but I'm currently running a 93 XJ pump with the locater tab cut off. It works fine, and the HO Fuel gauge works, but the fuel pump pickup is about an inch to inch and a half off the bottom of the tank due to the different angle of the XJ sender. It works fine, just don't get to use all 23 gallons. I'm curious to see how much this helps my fuel mileage. My trip meter was showing 66 miles, and there were about 8 gallons in the tank. The rest must have leaked out. I only fill up about once a month. Driving half a mile to work. My oil pressure gauge has not worked since I got the truck running. It always pegged out high. I ordered a new sending unit, and installed it last night, only to find that in a moment of stupidity, someone named me had put Teflon tape on the tapered threads. I went ahead and put the new sending unit on even though I'm sure the old one just needed the threads cleaned, and I have a working oil pressure gauge and great oil pressure!
  19. I know it's the morning, but I wasn't prepared to hear that 98 model cars are about to be 25 years old. Guess time waits for no man.
  20. The Aries hasn't always been priced that high. I looked into them a while back and they were more like $2-300.
  21. Fantastic. You do excellent work.
  22. Check voltage while cranking to your starter terminals, big wire and small. You should have battery voltage on both. If you don't, you've got a problem upstream. If you do, it's a bad starter. NEW= Never Ever Worked
  23. I hope that fixes it for you. Just another simple test is to take the vacuum check valve off the booster to release the vacuum. If the brakes free up, you could have a bad booster or improper pedal spacing. Ran into that on mine, but that was with a WJ booster/master.
  24. In June will be 10 years for me. I joined about 4 years before buying my first Comanche to learn. I agree, this is the only classic style forum I still find worth visiting. Much thanks to the mod team!
  25. Yeah the 4.7 HO is no slouch in the WJs. I had a 2wd 2002 Limited. Really liked that thing. Sounded good with a Borla exhaust.
