    Over the Hill

You know T, I said the same thing to my wife and she just hit me....really hard. Mine made me go bra shopping with her.... That is after she threw the remote at me. At least her aim sucks. :brows:
  2. I'm trying to make mine sit as low as possible. 6'3" here...
  3. In the pile of steel to recycle... :brows: Get a good 4-way, a HI-lift jack and a aluminum floor jack. A 15"x24" board for use on soft soil, a pair wheel chocks and a couple of jacks stands with 15"x15" boards to use with them. I'm also mounting loops to hook up a chain wraps around the axle so it doesnt have to droop when jacking it up. It makes it way easier. Well thats my trail supplys(except my floor jack is steel). They mount in my storage box.

    Over the Hill

Thats about time for a mid-life crisis. In other words fix any leaks, tune it up, maybe put a new o2 sensor in, do any other maintenance it's lacking and give it a careful check over. It should be good for another 150,000 miles. It just needs some love....and maybe a lift(you know how things start to sag over the years).
  5. OUCH, $45 to keep my door propped open, I dunno it's worth that... http://www.teamgrandwagoneer.com/parts/ ... d/810.html $5.00 at the salvage yard. :brows:
  6. Your drivers door check is bad, it needs to be replaced. Just pop the door panel off, tap the pin out at the body and unbolt the two bolts that holds the door check in. Get a good one and replace it.
  7. Dodge Dakota buckets will work with some creative mounting. Compared to the bench it has about 2" more leg room. Some have a center console that just unboltsand others have a floor console. They offer more support and comfort. They tilt forward too. '98 Dakota bucket seats with the console that unbolts. Image Not Found
  8. The up side is Wisconsin will stop doing emision tests on 1995 on older vehicles. So engine swaps are fair game.... If I can swing it my MJ will be running a built 340 as its powerplant.
  9. You are on lucky man... Here's to you  I wouldn't be surpised to see all my Jeep stuff gone when I came home from work some day... And I would that would be the final thing she could take from me since I would be gone.... She already took my feelings away many years ago... I envy you.
  10. There is a grease made for lubricating speedo cables. Here's an example: SLIPKOTE SPEEDOMETER GREASE is a premium quality, low temperature calcium grease that provides superior flexible cable housing lubrication at temperatures as low as -65°F. It is designed to prevent pulsating in wet or dry conditions and will outperform an ordinary grease as a speedometer cable lubricant in Automotive, Truck, Farm, Marine, and Industrial applications. Try stopping at a motorcycle shop, they should have the correct lubricant. If there is an auto repair shop/dealer that has been around for years they should be able to help you also. I go to the local Ford dealer that has been around for 40 years. I bring in the cable, pull it apart lubricate it and slide it back together. They charge me $1.00 cash. They have a 8 ounce can of Ford speedometer cable lubricant. After lubricating the cable with a light coating of grease, slide it back into the cable housing from the transmission end. Push it untill you can grab it from the other end and pull out a foot or two. Push it back in and you should be ready to reinstall it. Doing it this way helps keep excessive lubricant from getting into the speedometer housing, but helps get the cable housing fully lubricated. Be sure to clean the grease off of the end that hooks up to the cluster. I have also had to clean out the housing because of rust or old grease buildup. I spray in some PB Blaster and work the cable threw it a few times. I use some brake clean when done and blow the housing out with compressed air after that. Then just spray the cable down with brake clean or take it to the parts washer to clean it out. After that I apply the lubricate and reinstall it. This can be done with the cable still in the vehicle. If I think about it I will take a some pictures when I pull the cable out of my MJ. It won't be reused since I'm converting it into a 95 XJ wiring and driveline set-up. This would be a good tech write-up. If anyone has some pictures, send them to me and I'll make the write-up and give you credit for your work.
  11. Here is a link to my JeepSpeed photos I've collected. Cool pics and a bunch of technical pics. Image Not Found Image Not Found
  12. X 3 It needs a bunch of work before it is road worthy. It's still a good foundation you just need to remove some parts before the building begins.
  13. I'm in Wisconsin. Mine will make to the dunes in Michigan and a trip out west. You don't need a stinkin' desert. All you need is legal wide open areas. I bet Ohio has some of those.... I have relatives with 800 acres of land that is mainly wide open with some good places to catch air if I want too. Fire roads are fun to cruise on too. You would be amazed at what a 2wd with a spool and a 50/50 wieght bias can go. I'll stay in 2wd after everyone else is in 4wd unless I need 4wd. I have permission to wheel a local gravel pit and you need to get airbourne to climb over the top of most of the walls. 2wd just means I need to start the climb at a low speed instead of getting on the wall in 4wd and standing on it. It will handle speed bumps at 50+mph if you found a legal spot. The difference between a prerunner and most 4wd is the handling and control on rough terrain. Read about them and incorporate some of their tech into your rig, it will make it handle /ride better. The rollcage design is far superior and will do way more then just a factory rollbar or most of the cages I have seen in an MJ to protect you and stiffen the chassis. Don't slam on people because of they have different set-ups then you.... Learn from them. For all you know he could be laughing at your rig because he could blow you doors off in most highspeed runs. I suppose you would think some else who lived by you was  if he owned this. Image Not Found Image Not Found Or this Image Not Found
  14. Nice ride. Post up some more pics like a side view. ;) If you need to cut the fenders for the clearance needed to be able to turn from lock to lock when fully flexed let me know.
  15. Nice find on the MJ. Saved another one. I guess you have never seen a prerunner built for fun, a 1400/1450 class prerunner or a class 7 rig. Most JeepSpeed rigs are 2wd for most courses. They swap front axles as needed. There is even way more lift parts available for 2wd Ranger then MJ's... There is a ton of tech we can learn and use from them.... Here are some great links that I have learned from, I will be using what I learned for my MJ build. :brows: http://www.dezertrangers.com/vb/index.php http://www.race-dezert.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=1 There is a ton of great tech on both boards. I've been thinking about buying a 2.3L 5spd and using it as a DD. It would get a long travel A-arm front suspension with some 64" Chevy rear springs. 33x10.5 would be the choice for tires. Good MPG with the proper gearing and nice ride quaility. Image Not Found Image Not Found This is nice too. ;) Image Not Found  End Hi-jack
  16. Looks good. Lots of work. Is he building his own frame? Whats the wheelbase going to be? I'm not going as long. That is way long. I'm just adding 2dr doors and the back of another MJ cab. And I will be keeping the MJ vents.
  17. X2I have a trac-lock in the front of our YJ, which is just a gear driven limited slip, and it is not the greatest either. I think you mean a Tru-Trac limited slip which is a gear operated unit. It send power to the axle with the most traction. At low speeds it might notlock up as easy. If you lift a tire it will spin thr lifted tire. If you apply the brakes it will transfer the power to the other side. They work nice when crawling if you ride the brakes some when the trail gets bad. This will keep it working great. A trac-lock is a clutch type limited slip.
  18. 5/16" NC thread about 1/2"-3/4" long with a 1/2" hex head....
  19. Depending on your lift height the control arm angle s might be too steep. This will also cause a rough ride. Some more details about your rig would help. ;)

Bet ya can't do it... Be sure to film it if you do. ;)

    Jeep abuse?

Wow a drunk guys can break glass and rollover a XJ without a driveline. :dunce: It's probably on You Tube with some rap music playing. They think they are hot $#!& on silver platers when they really are cold turds on paper plates...

    WI emission laws

I like the new law. ;) I've already been looking into a V-8 for the MJ. Probably a 360 mag engine or a 400 with a 440 crank.(446ci in a smaller sized block) a 383 with a 440 crank would be a 426ci. That would work too. MILWAUKEE — Cars and trucks built before 1996 are scheduled to become exempt from having to undergo vehicle emissions inspections in southeastern Wisconsin starting July 1. The changes in the program, which were approved earlier by the Legislature, affect cars in Milwaukee, Waukesha, Ozaukee, Washington, Racine, Kenosha and Sheboygan counties. The state now exempts cars in model years 1967 and older. The program began in 1984 as a means for the region to come into compliance for violating federal clean air standards. Charles Rhodes, who supervises the vehicle inspection program at Department of Transportation, says exempting older cars will drive down the cost of the program. But officials say testing of heavy-duty vehicles that weigh 10,000 to 14,000 pounds is being added, as well as testing of diesel-powered vehicles
  23. 31" tires can fit without a lift. I have run 33x10.50" without a lift with proper fender work... I started with 30" tires, sold them and bought 33x10.50's but the wife didn't like them because it was he daily driver and they rubbed hard on the control arms... So I bought some 31's for her, spaced her steering stops. Since I still had the 33" tires I bought another Jeep for me to put the tires on. I bought some 15x"7" black rims with 4" of backspacing to eliminate the rubbing the 33" tires had.
  24. Normally when I pull up to a 4 way stop intersection, they usually let me go first. Maybe its the bumper or how hard I was on the brakes while stopping? This was in my XJ I just parted out to build my MJ. Kind of intimidating... Image Not Found The side view even looks wilder. Image Not Found I'm probably going to make a new bumper and sell the one above to JeepcoMJ.
  25. The lack of any initals and signitures are great for you. I would say it's not a contract that will stand-up.
