  1. In all honesty, it's an improvement.
  2. is the mj rusty? if you want a truggy, start with a really rusty one. it's a shame to chop up a perfectly good (or saveable) one...
  3. I'm pretty far from being impressed with rock krawler's welds. There's no pride in them...like they're slapped together, and they don't care to clean them up before paint
  4. The renault will maintain speed at 60 to 65 if you downshift with a reasonable payload. And get 25mpg on a bad day. My dad (opsled) got an avg of 28 or 29 with his, and it had had a cracked head for the past 100k miles or so. His highest when there were no issues was 34mpg, and it would safely get an avg of 30 or a bit more with no running issues (not broken). Great little truck. If you can learn to work on them, and do the maintenance as required, the renault will outlast the body it's installed in.
  5. The shafts on the trans should be the same. Someone else should confirm this though. They are not. In order to mate the newer trans behind the older motor, you'll need the pilot bearing from a 74 CJ with a 304. Rockauto.com has them for a few bucks. As for the older trans behind the newer motor, I have no clue. I have studied the AX5...........only difference year to year is the int/ext TOB sleeve...........what about the AX15? never saw a year specific ad from rebuilders/suppliers. You need to just stop posting. I find improper tech and offensive statements in most everything you post. And anyone here with any sense or even a quick google will know that the pilot bushing changed diameter between 90 and 91. Thus, the input shaft IS different. As far as making internal work on 97 and up...good luck. The masters are entirely different so you can not swap thee old to new without some custom work
  6. Dad runs whatever is cheapest amd undiluted tap water in his....never an issue. Of course, the head is cracked lol
  7. This measurement setup is meant fire a fully assembled vehicle. Easiest way to measure within 1/2 inch of actual ride height
  8. Aaron, tgose are the lengths for front short arms with no drop brackets with their tespective lift heights.
  9. Cool! It's like a big vw engine.
  10. Good point on tax deductions...gotta revisit my taxes now
  11. that looks like the right thing to buy!
  12. I was there when you had that Stanley tool episode. That was messed up. I have to say though... I picked up a Stanley ratchet a couple years ago in a pinch, and it's one of my favorite ratchets. 3/8", mid length, smooth feel, really solid with nice action. Surprised for sure. Rob yeah. of two different sets at that time, neither had one single 13mm that fit properly. of two more sets between a couple buddies, same thing. the lack of capacity to make one tool properly makes me just avoid the brand entirely...if I can't trust one thing out of experience, how can I justify spending money on anything else from that company? never had much interest in MAC anyways...
  13. stanley owns MAC? that's enough reason to never buy from them again. only thing worse than a craftsman ratchet, is a stanley ratchet. and any 13mm stanley socket doesn't even fit 13mm much less 1/2". (tested that theory with 4 different stanley tool sets)
  14. fiberglass is still pretty light. and it's not the weight that brings this to mind. it's the "I'm spending the time to paint this and don't want to have to do it again in under 5 years when it rusts out...again" mentality that makes me think about doing it.
  15. yes, but they don't wrap around the tail light, and the rear lower quarter doesn't taper up like it should.
  16. Hey all, I'm just trying to gauge what the general interest in 6' and 7' complete bedsides for MJs would be. they would screw on via the inside of the bed rail, inside edge by tailgate, and front of bed. they would still let you use factory fender flares, though you would have to drill the holes, and the gas door would already be there. aside from that, they would appear (on the outside) to be perfectly factory. I have an opportunity to get involved in making these, but at $2000/side for R&D on molds for them, I would have to have a good amount of interest. I also need to know a realistic and fair price range of what you would be willing to spend on them. Thanks, Pat
  17. check out ebay. you'll find your prices in your area really aren't that bad. I know, because I sell all of mine on ebay now, since I can get more than I can from the locals.
  18. I break craftsman ratchets every damn time I use them. To me, it's pretty damn inconvenient to have to drive all the way to the store, every single time I pick up one of their tools, and go exchange it. Don't get me wrong...that they're warrantied is great. But I won't buy them anymore. I own cornwell tools now. and I will never look back. Yes, my ratchet set (extra long erginomic or however you spell it handles) which consists of a 1/2", 3/8", and 1/4" did cost me $285. but I beat on them harder than any craftsman ratchet could take, and they're the quick-ratchet style. My sockets are all Cornwell, as well. and all of them are 6 point impacts. aside from a few 12pt snap-on extra long 1/2" drive 1/2" impact sockets, and a few random 3/8" drive 12pt metric and standard cornwells, I refuse to use 12pt sockets. convenience be damned, it's a touch more inconvenient to round the head off the bolt because I was too lazy to spend a bit of extra time tinkering to get that "just right" angle with a 6pt socket. I got the quick ratchets to accomodate for that. I'm not trying to be elitest. I sure can't afford snap-on tools, though I would like to. so, I went with Cornwell, and haven't looked back. I use my tools too much to be willing to deal with the inconvenience of warranty exchange every time I use them. I do keep a craftsman 500pc toolset in my jeep, with another set of Cornwell ratchets, because I don't want expensive tools to get stolen and I need them for the junkyards.
  19. a local guy does upholstery on the side, and has a 2dr xj that he plows with. got to talking to him, he does ALOT of industrial seats. meaning rip proof tear proof and waterproof on all manner of equipment. my front seats are shot, and it seems I'm always getting dirty doing something or another...which is my justification for swapping in the vinyl "carpet", and why I want seats I can pretty much wipe clean and not worry about. so, got him to do a quick "mock-up" seat for me to determine if I want to go this route, or go with leather. i'm going this route, but with green thread to match the jeep. I'm going to pad up a set of my seats with the lumbars adjusted for me, add more padding to the side bolsters, and have him do a real nice job on the fronts. he'll also do the rear seat, once I add headrests to it.
  20. other than star wars books (I have all of them...a result of being the geek in school), anything I collect tends to be potentially lethal. knives, swords, bows, and an assortment of guns. used to collect old pens but couldn't deal with ink all over my hands. I HATE being dirty. (seriously, I wash my hands at least 8 times a day when I'm wrenching)
  21. The external is only worthwhile if you throw in the front bearing retainer, slave, throwout plate, bearing, and master cylinder.

    E-Cigs

Worst money I've ever spent. Didn't work for me and won't ever spend any cash on e cigs again. Not enough feeling like I'm actually smoking. Doesn't fill the lungs. I just smoke alot of hookah to trim back on cigs
  23. There's nothing 3/4 elliptic about your suspension
  24. Stock internal slave? I have one. 25 plus shipping, probably be about 25 to ship
  25. No cash. Not gonna make it. Don't get paid until tomorrow afternoon
