  1. i have RC 3" lift on two of my comanches...and i love it. it feels stable and the front end is great...i don't like the AAL's as they got stiff and don't offer lift anymore.
  2. it won't be cheaper, i get all the scrap metal i want for free and already have the square tube i think i'll use. as for easier, i already have to redo the right side as it's collapsed, why not beef it up a bit?
  3. EZ fix. decide if you want it to look stock or look beefy...if stock, you can order replacement rockers (which fit for the most part) and fit them in. if beefy, some steel square tube (3x6 or something) works well. and acts as a rock rail
  4. Boys, my front axle is bent in my good MJ. I have the axle outta the MJ that i'm scrapping...BUT the coil spring "mount" / pedistal on the right side is collapsed. So I'm thinking...I will have another axle, but I would actually rather use this one and build my own mounts that are stronger, and reinforce the entire axle at the same time with metal pipe welded around it as reinforcement, and plates for reinforcing the other parts. basically, i'm wondering...because this appears the time to do it....if I can raise the coil pedistals 2" higher for some lift. I know that I can, but can you offer me advice? I have 3" lift coils, but can get 4.5" ones, and new adjustable UCA and LCA's. the reason i'm thinking of doing it this way is that I'm going SOA with the 8.8 rear end, which will be about 6.5" of lift as it is... after the axles, next project is a 4 cylinder dakota ax15 (external slave) as it matches my bellhousing pattern on the 3.8. that would make me a bulletproof drivetrain, and have 3.73's for gearing with the 8.8 and dana 30 front. ideas?
  5. hmm...original engine and trans? impressive if it is, if not, eh, it's nice that they kept the body so nice...
  6. guys, sand down the lip at the top to match the main part of it. they ARE solid plastic, but are malleable (squishy)
  7. lmao i will. it's just a 1984 porsche 944...nothing special. pretty gosh darn fast though...but it needs ALOT of work lol. it's his DD while his mj isn't driveable (busted front axleshaft)
  8. HEY! my axle looks like that! has for all of 15,000 miles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (time for a new one?!)
  9. when you do it, make sure you click the fullsize pics...click each pic, then right click on the fullsize one for the link. that way we can actually see what we're looking at
  10. hmm...that makes me want to just sand the fronts when/if i do that conversion, so that it's all the same. i don't wanna deal with plastic welding...
  11. only thing that will be left in it is the wiring...as that's shot. the part that's going to the jy is the frame from the middle of the cab forward...i'm keeping half the roof and the back of cab and box. and the front end will be shelled out as well

    Dodge Ram 2500

yeah, look out for a 2wd. great trucks, but not worth a lick of salt in 2wd
  13. haha, yeah...what sucks about it is that my brother just gave me a pair of brand new 4x6 pioneers that match my front ones...he bought them for his porsche but they're too thick or something... all that work for nothing! haha
  14. I've got some nice 6" pioneers squeezed into my doors (appears stock), a sony xplod cd head unit, sony xplod 600 watt amp, xplod 800 watt 10" sub in half-finished box, and had no rear speakers until this thread gave me the itch... so I ripped out the non-working 6x4's from the b-pillars and put these kenwood 4"? door speakers in. enough for me, sounds great I think.
  15. on the front he is...but that's hella beefed up and the only weekness i see now is the diffs but he seems to be good at what he's doing, so my worries are minimal it looks good.
  16. so Screw the whole project...I am SCRAPPING IT. I will yank the drivetrain and probably scrap the engine minus some parts for a 3.4 swap for beaterjeep's 86. i'll keep the axles but the springs are gonna be torched. gutting the interior, keeping the bed, keeping the doors and split rear, and the hood, fenders, and header panel and front bumper. this will be a complete scrapping...it'll go off to a friend who owns a wrecking company/scrapping business. I'll have a complete tranny/driveshafts/4x4 shift assembly for a 2.8 or 2.5 4x4 conversion available soon. the front axle stays, mine's bent. rear axle has blown spiders but good 3.55 gears, which may end up in my bro's truck to improve upon his 3.07's (i'm 3.73-ing the front end). no more tatersalad. he's crap. oh, i'll plasma off the roof and rear of the cab while I'm at it...in case I do a cheromanche sometime in the future.
  17. I agree. i'm one of the guys who wrenches on manches...but i specialize in the 2.8's and the renault. never messed with the 4.0 much and only a couple 2.5's. i do snowmobiles and volkswagons other than that lol. but the basic knowledge can be applied to everything if you get the concepts, and it helps that my dad is a diesel mechanic (was). he's got more know-how than any other mechanic I will ever meet. which helpse me out a ton. then if there's something I don't know, you guys help fill in the margins for me! I truly use this site more than any other, and am grateful for it's very existance. thanks Pete!
  18. well this wouldn't be part of the turning...but check your water pump as well for whining
  19. it appears that they bolted the rear flares right on...no altering... I just say that cause the rear flares look low and I can see the wheel wells appear smaller than stock. looks great though
  20. ...my exhaust cost me 145. but I did it myself. the thrush turbo muffler was $40, and the Nox catalytic converter (special order because I don't have an evap canister....I appear legal but am actually not) was $102. had a mint tailpipe from another longbed i parted out, and my downpipes / y-pipe is completely custom made by me. oh, and 5 bucks for some length of pipe between the y-pipe and the converter, and between the converter and the muffler
  21. not from an HO...he got it from me and it came outta a 89 or 90 cherokee 4.0. everything worked on with it plugged to my 2.8 and to my bro's 4.0. a little secret for y'all. the sending units...they're the same between the 2.8 and early 4.0's
  22. ask the right questions, and cover your @$$. I see no inherent problem with paying storage fees to get it back. if it's impounded now, and he's in jail/has been arrested/ticketed, the police have done the follow-up already and any legal issues with the vehicle should be taken care of. I would say if the impound fees are waaaaaay less than the value of the truck, then do it. but check your rights first.
  23. coolant is somewhere on the head...probably at one of the corners of the head either front or back. idk about the gas gauge...it worked on my truck when i plugged it into my trucks and i've got a 2.8, it worked right there, and on the 4.0
  24. sending unit is right under the oil filter...it's small now, but the replacement is bigger. temperature sending unit is on the head...i forget where on the 4.0 good luck!
  25. pics would help, and no. unless it has electronic plugins...i would say gi joe
