I'm starting on the 90 parts xj teardown in the next week or so. I may need to do ball joints on the new axle :( but, next week we're also gettin the MJ started and pulled into the sun and running...he's already put octane booster and new 93 octane fuel in to mix with the old fuel. tires aired up to see how long they'll hold.

:D those were my door speakers too...but I got a free and realllllly nice set of 6" speakers that I put in my doors, and I also didn't have rear speakers. love 'em. adding 6x9 in the corners next, or ditching the 10" sub and going with 2 8" subs
-
familiar pic ;) note that's not a 3x4 like what's supposed to be mounted in there, but a 4" round speaker. the rear speakers were an option with superior sound from factory, so yours must not have had that (hence it doesn't have the bracketry). I don't have a set because I used them unfortunately.

Wheel bearing replacement

You mean if my factory u-joints had been greasable they would have lasted 280,000 miles instead of crapping out at a measly 260,000? Dayyum, I sure wish I'd a knowed that. 95% of people don't have ujoints last that long. my last ones only lasted 40,000 and it's because I didn't grease them regularly. and I buy expensive ujoints too it's all in what the vehicle is used for. if it's offroaded alot, replacements are common (due to breakage or getting dirty inside). street use may last that long. did you have the vehicle all it's life? did you offroad much? maybe you baby your vehicle more than an average person (i.e. clean meticulously)? it's just obvious that greasable is better, if there are any chances of it failing, you can grease it and save time by not having to tear it apart. and, as I pointed out, you do not have to remove the zerk fittings. -
custom brackets will allow it to fit. that, and he's extending the cab anyways so it probably won't be conventional

yeah, you can't do what you're thinking, the harnesses are completely different. extensive wiring would be needed to make it standalone, and it really is not gonna take that much more work to yank the dash and swap the harness. (I yanked my dash, and reinstalled my new dash, in less than 2 hours...with a bunch of fiddling around on prep work and such in between -

to grease it you almost have to have it up on jackstands and turn the wheel. BUT if that's the worse you can do for an extra 20,000 miles, it's worth it -

are you kidding? I run greasable EVERYTHING. you can leave the zerk fittings in there and they work just fine...it's the way I've run my trucks for years and haven't seen an ounce of damage. remember, greasable can give you more years of use, it's your decision how long they last, depending on the upkeep you're willing to do -
I need all the side (lower and upper) and rear trim in black if anyone decides to sell...

Wheel bearing replacement

check the brand on that and make sure it's backed by warranty...if $70 is the worst you can do, you're either lucky, or the part is cheapo -
Wheel bearing replacement
JeepcoMJ replied to Tonedef131's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
reason you need to take it apart is that it actually has a bearing race. frankly, I'm surprised that someones offering a bearing kit for them...it's really not something I'd risk rebuilding -
o-u-r. our. as for the golden retriever, I think that you'll want to see it through since you have spent so much already. how old is he? age will be a factor in what you can spend...when our german shepherd fractured his entire leg, he was close to 13. he had less than a year to go max, and half of that would have been spent recovering. he was miserable, and at the point we had the vet come to put him to sleep, he was OK with it, he knew what was going on, and it seems like he was thankful. that was the single hardest thing I've ever done...but, we did it for him not for me.

well you'll probably need to take apart the wheel bearings first to figure out if they can be saved. -
gotcha. I was reading up on it. someone did the swap into a 93 xj and kept the newer intake and such
-
am I wrong that the 05 4.0 is the newer style 4.0 (v-engine)? or was that 06 that they started in?
-
I have the same problem. idk what to do
-
engine, tranny, transfercase, and complete wiring harness would be needed

the switches go in the center console (full center console) on the lefthand side right in front of the armrest. I installed power mirrors for my brother and located the switch to the right of the steering column, in the switch panel. I'll take pics. if you mount the switch in front of you, switch the left and right wires...otherwise left is right and vice-versa (ask how I figured that one out.... )

yeah haven't seen many of them though. it's simple to add
