  1. here's my fix cut off the rusted portion of the cable, clean up the part that holds the tire up, slide it on, take a small cable clamp, fold the cable over, and clamp it together. hasn't given me a lick of trouble. I'm adding a second cable clamp through the "hoop" that's created by folding the cable, so that it can't slide apart
  2. the law is necessary. I KNOW I would've been distracted by all my buddies when driving. hell, just another person in the car is a distraction sometimes (yay hott ladies). what you feel is unfair or not conservational is SAVING LIVES because that's one less person an inattentive driver can kill. as for the poster, I feel sorry that he made bad choices, but not sorry that he's gonna learn a lesson from this.
  3. no, there ARE different mounting points for different combos that is correct and not all that strange. you'll have to do a bit of cleaning, but the mounting point is there for the holes already, and the inner mounting point is also there...you'll need to wire brush it all and clean it up, and maybe put a nutzert in if it's not there. make sure you're using the rubber mount that came off that tranny, and the crossmember doesn't really matter, just one will be a little higher..
  4. thnx but no thnx. if I'm retrofitting cherokee seat belts to a comanche recoil, I'll get the right colour right off the bat. already have grey, but thanks for the offer.
  5. nah, it was pretty warm. like 30 degrees all day, was working in a sweatshirt :D
  6. almost there! ha, when can I come see it? and do you still need the tailgate? I'd like to get a hold of the rollbar. I'm worried about your fuel and brake lines being so close to the driver's side header...may wanna heat shield them.
  7. may be 3.73 gears actually. but after looking at it, I CAN put XJ seat belts in the MJ recoil assembly...if I'm careful not to lose any of the bazillion parts inside, or unwind the spring.
  8. the reason that is is that one crossmember actually sits the tranny higher in the tunnel, the other is about 1/4" lower because it has an indent where the rubber mount sits.
  9. today I pulled the donor 2.5 MJ down to start gutting it so TNT can have the cab. started all this at almost 2pm by the way ;) it's a shame, it's really not in that bad of shape. if I had the title this wouldn't be happening. sorry for these dark pics and yes, I did all this work out in the drizzling, icy outdoors. had to scrape ice off the cowyard in order to do this pulled the engine wiring and all accessories (battery tray and intake box need to come out still) then, started working on my spare headliner board. I use fiberglass cloth and resin on the headliner boards because they are layered, and I find that the layers often fall apart, which causes the cloth to sag. this is preventative. just laying out the cloth here it's halfway dry I use quart of resin at a time, mixed with half a small hardener tube here is my new black headliner material. got it off ebay, search word headliner fabric. all colors available, and 3 yards cost me $38 shipped (this is enough to do 2 headliners, an overhead console, and a pair of sunvisors) this is a bad pic but you can kinda see it laid out then I installed my cargo light (many thanks CEThomas). I was extremely hesitant to drill holes in the back of the cab but... the factory wiring is there, in every comanche, to put a cargo light in. but, you have to remove the headliner to do it, and the interior panels to do that, and the seat belts to remove the interior panels...all of which I did :D here you can see my retrofit speakers then I stripped the OHC of the grey cloth it had, and sanded the surface underneath. it will not be getting recovered, instead it will get sprayed with vinyl black to give it a nice dark black colour. I also installed the wiring for the OHC lights. they will come on when the doors open, and when I push the button. also shot a pic of the truck with the rear trim removed. it's amazing, you can actually tell where the seats are, instead of seeing just blackness more tomorrow :D just gotta finish the headliner board and then I'll be able to cover it using 3m CLEAR adhesive spray. I will do a writeup on the headliner process for DIY (after I finish my window one)
  10. haha everyone point and laugh - CW can't decide what shoes he wants on his truck! haha, jk man...seriously, you've swapped them what, 9 times?
  11. .. if you have normal bolts on the caliper, you need to go buy the correct ones. the correct ones allow the caliper to slide (they should be greased when installed), and they bottom out far before hitting the pad
  12. I don't see any rust  (that's actually not that bad) the rust gets in from your feet for the most part. those round access things are drain plugs and should be replaced, or removed, cleaned, and resealed. as you're cleaning the floor up, on the front there is seam sealer under the insulation that's under your feet. scrape it all off as that's a common rust spot, then cut out any bad rust.
  13. I'm not looking forward to disassembly of the recoil part of the belts...was gonna just drop the belt in the dye after pulling it all the way out (it won't be in the truck, but I mean pulling it out of the recoil) and clamping it so it won't go back in. colton, if you can get them real cheap we can see if I can make them work. I'm not sure. i DO know that the recoil isn't the same, and they're longer. so I'd have to do some swapping.
  14. thanks, and let me know. also if you're at it anyways, you'd probably find black rear and lower trim, which I need too (mine's dyed with vinyl dye) I'm gonna do it either way because once I find original black seat belts, and rear trim, I'll have a complete second black interior that's done with vinyl dye (I have 2 OEM spare black bucket seats and center console right now) and that would go in another project I've got going soon.
  15. I can't find black seat belts for a comanche, and the select few leads there are are too far and no one has gotten back to me. so, since I'm doing the headliner this week, I was thinking of getting some "tye-dye" in black, and putting the seat belts in black dye there for a day or two. do you guys think that would work? remember, I've also had to paint everything on my interior black except the glovebox area, knee board, kick panels, center console, female belt ends, and seats
  16. Removing your door window(s) on a comanche or cherokee is fairly easy. first, remove door panels via 2 screws in the armrest, and 3 screws on the door handle/latch assembly. pull the door panel back, then lift it up, and finaggle with it to get it off the handle assembly. EDIT: will finish later...
  17. headliner material (in black) arrived today. time to do that up. 3 yards was $40 shipped to my door
  18. hell, if I had the money right now I'd be driving down there to pick it up from you.
  19. sell it whole please. IDC who to, but that thing is a gem and too rare to chop up (even for offroading)
  20. ..I'm trying to tread as lightly as I personally can here. aside from the F* bomb being dropped a few times, everything I said is true.
  21. I spelt the title wrong. oh well. first off, I apologize for language. I tried to tone it down a bit. a kid posted this on a facebook group I'm on... Derrick- "I also love winter. i get to go snow bogging down snomoble trails, and gravel roads!!! and i get to do donuts and almost FLIP!!!!" wtf? my response "derrick you dumb f*, if I caught you in your f*ing jeep on the snowmobile trails I'd beat the motherlovin piss outta your @$$ and leave you beggin me to put you outta your misery. offroad ethics people. 1. stay the f*k off other people's property, unless explicit permission is given otherwise 2. stay the f*k off trails that aren't meant for you. alot of us wait an entire year for our trails to be opened for snowmobiling, and you go f*ing wreck it. great, thanks. make me beat the f*ing piss out of my snowmobile that cost more than your mid-90's wrangler did. 3. always help a fellow wheeler in need, they'll be more likely to help you in your moment of need. 4. be prepared; don't rely on everyone else to bring spare parts for when YOU f*k up 5. if you can't drive like a sane person on-road, you should probably not wheel around another living soul. your lack of care in an obstacle-free environment more than likely means you treat your rig that way, and worse, offroad. i.e. ur not a safe driver and likely to be stranded" this goes for everyone. you wheel where you're supposed to. every time you go somewhere you're not supposed to, it gives ALL of us a bad name. end result, less people want trails for us, so less trails, less offroad havens. less funding for offroad parks. eventually it all dries up and we're all screwed. if I EVER see some idiot with his jeep on a snowmobile trail and he's doing something other than recovering his or his buddy's broken down sled, I WILL most definitely guarantee that I get you a ticket. (you can tell, I snowmobile....you should see my feelings towards the douche's who see snow and pull the rope and go...let it sit and harden for gosh sakes, it'll last longer) if we need to alter this post, please let me know. I will change it if need be, but I really feel that everyone needs to consider this.
  22. yep, without them no one would ever learn anything. they're not out there to "get you", they're just doing their job to ensure everyone stays safe and follows the law. if $600 is the most you ever spend for a life-lesson, consider yourself lucky
  23. Eagle, I agree with you 100%. but, most people abuse their trucks more than you so anything to help them with upkeep to counter the abuse is a great thing.
  24. in WI we can have 1 relative and 1 friend in the car at most. both or either/or. I disobeyed that ONCE when inside my 6 months (I think it may have been longer than that even), at the very beginning. but didn't get caught by the law. I took my bro and his band up a 50 min. drive to a guitar center in my volkswagon cabriolet convertible, on the way back we wanted the top down at a stop sign, so I said to clear the back window of their junk, they said they did. so I unlatched it and they shoved it back, having not cleared the back window space...which shattered the rear window. well that sucked, but all was good...I thought. even had the story straight so they wouldn't know there were other people in the car, but my bro slipped up and said a couple buddies were in the car. lost me my car for a week when my mom found out. so I never took his band anywhere again and basically said piss off...it didn't make me happy that he screwed me over when I helped him. AND I ended up paying for the new rear window (with defrost) end of story it is the law and I did disobey it, glad I didn't get caught. no one obeys it anyways, but you really should so b*tching about something you did wrong isn't really gonna help. it's a learning experience
