What color was my headliner originally?
JeepcoMJ replied to Rymanrph's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
the fabric off your headliner is gone, so the color is no longer there. you also need new visors, they're faded. go with standard light grey. -

I'm with Rob on the bed skin differences. this saturday I'm picking up an mj swb bed that has oem bed skins riveted on it...I'll pull the bed skins (bedsides) off of it and scrap the rest, since there are all sorts of holes cut in the floor of it. I can get you some exact measurements off of them. -
what's your take on antilock breaks?
JeepcoMJ replied to JeepcoMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
LMFAO. no, ABS DOES NOT work really really well. matter of fact, I've not once been in a vehicle with abs that worked properly, in any way shape or form. the proper way to pump ABS would be to pump the brakes all at the same time, rather than alternating. one locking up and then the other locking up is NOT pumping. and, btw, after removing the fuse from the van, it no longer slides when you use the brakes. -
buick 3800, 5 speed, 4x4, 3.55's and 31's....26mpg daily, have gotten 34mpg highway behind a semi for 200 miles. averaged 28-29mpg highway, though. 86 xj 4 cyl 5 speed 4x4 4.10's, 29" tires. 16-19mpg city, 21mpg highway. 87 mj 4.0 auto, 4.10's with 33's. 17mpg city, 18mpg highway. the motor was fubar'd. same mj, with 33's but all 95 H.O. 4.0 auto, I got around the same mileage as renix. same mj, again, with 35's on it...take one or two mpg off what I was getting before. 86 mj 2.1l renault turbo diesel, 5 speed, 4.10's, stock tires (225's)...27mpg on a bad day, up to 38mpg depending on how easy you are on it. it would get better if the head wasn't cracked and we could get the boost above 5. 88mj 4.0 5 speed 4x with 3.07's and 31" tires...16-17mpg daily, 18-19 highway. same mj, with 28.5" mud terrains on it, 18-19 city, 21 highway. same mj, 28.5" m/t's, 3.55 gears, solid 18 city, 20 highway.

mj's were more utility hauling, and not thought of as a family/daily driver vehicle, so not many were 4x4.

god... pete, you didn't just recommend the mustang 5.0 did you? my boss has one in his YJ....it's no bueno.

what's your take on antilock breaks?
JeepcoMJ replied to JeepcoMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
rob, that's great and all, but the simplest thing to do WITHOUT abs is to not stomp the brakes. slight pressure will slow you down to a point where you're able to still steer, and will enable you to get to lower speeds where you CAN stomp on the brakes. -
I HATE ABS. my company van has had the brakes pulsating from left to right in slippery conditions. they actually choose to pulsate and lock the side that's slipping, and so I end up sliding with no control. and they're very touchy...you start slipping because they don't work properly, so you let up on the breaks...to no avail. doesn't do any good whatsoever. so, I've vowed that, from now on, I intend to remove ABS on each and every vehicle that I ever own. and yeah, I'm about as much a fan of abs as I am of air bags. air bags are 110mph of killing power that wasn't necessary in a low speed crash. the bruises are better than broken bones (only time an air bag went off on me, I was a passenger in a car and it broke two ribs and a thumb...that was into a tree at 45mph in snowy conditions. similar condition, air bags failed to go off, I had a few bruises)

yeah, I talk to him every once in awhile. he's more concerned with stereo equipment than jeeps right now. sold his xj, and the mj is still sitting on stands with no axles or suspension, and it doesn't run because in all his fender mods he set fire to the wire harness.

if I get you a set of nice, clean shortbed bed skins/sides, can you start stamping those out, too? -

Jakeman's Progression **SOLD**
JeepcoMJ replied to Jakeman17's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
umm. we gots a problem. My boss just told me that I'm on call this weekend...apparently it's been up on the nonexistant calender at work for the past month. so, I have no guarantee that I will even be home tomorrow. if we could perhaps do this shindig somewhere your direction, I can take my company van but I'll have to leave if I get a call. I should have the axle today, though. -

yeah, but the point is that it's on gravel. I've done enough work on gravel... -
it's a 98 something in the works, but it's not likely a 98 eliminator. it does, however, involve alot of swapping. let's just say that wade can look forward to a local clone, and I can look forward to a H.O. street truck with awd.

my place, say 10am. fred's for lunch, even though it's back south. that, or the badlanders in wind lake has good burgers too. going to bleed the radiator, diagnose the mpg issue (most likely an o2 sensor issue, IMHO). jake, if you've never replaced your fuel filter, pick one up. we will replace that. we will put the closest to correct speedometer gear in, and give you the proper one for 3.55's to install when you get your rear axle in. I'll be going over to get that axle during the day tomorrow...we may need to make a pitstop to actually finish getting it out, but I *might* have the means of removing it myself. I don't have the means of swapping a rear axle at my place...not on gravel much less with a crappy floor jack. so we'll probably prep the rear axle for jake to install it. if time permits, we may hit up a junkyard or two near my house. -Pat p.s. I'll get everyone my address tomorrow. p.p.s. wade, you can have your office dvd and siper back if I can have futurama back :D -
the MUTT's were almost all cut in half and scrapped. a guy local owns one.
-
because I'm already trimmed like a mofo on it, and 33's look too small now. reguardless, looks like my dad needs a DD a.s.a.p. because the diesel is now on 3 cylinders, so this will probably be his.
