Squeeky Speedo Cable...?
ComancheKid45 replied to ComancheKid45's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Alright I'm still chasing this issue.....i had everything apart this weekend and noticed the cable really has no way for lube or contaminates to get inside it, i removed the plastic connector and tryed to get the nozzle down in the cable but noticed that there was a bushing with a hole no larger than the cable itself, the cable spun freely and seemed fine.....However I'm thinking it could be coming from the Speedo itself, even though i put a new cluster in i used the orgional speedo, since its all mechanical I'm sure a spray of WD40 or some type of lube on the speedo gears themselves may be in order. I have the graphite base spray i was going to use on the cable, would that be alright on the speedo gears? or should i lean towards something more triditional? I know the sound is from right behind the dash and the speedo itself is my last culprit. Any other info would be great. Thanks! -
Ha Ha....i think we'd crash any party that would be happening there We'd Have MJs parked on top of Mercedies and Lexus's, LMAO it could be awesome!

Wow its been awhile since ive updated this....anyway i just completed my newest project this evening, Upgrading to some full guages (Thanks Wildman!) They were out of a Canadian XJ so some of the measurements are metric, i think its kinda cool, i did however swap out the Speedo to my orgional to keep my milage and to keep MPH, even with it in there I think it looks pretty good, still need an Oil sender which ill tackle tomorrow. Someday ill take some new pics of the truck as well when i get a chance to keep it clean. -
Rule #2- to even be considered a Jeep there must be 2 solid Axles underneath it, IFS is not found on any real Jeeps i know of :smart:

will a xj add a leaf work on a mj?
ComancheKid45 replied to green_miner's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
An XJ AAL will net about 1/2 the height when installed on an MJ....so a 3" XJ AAL will net ya roughly no more than 1.5" on an MJ  -

this is completly irrelivent but that Eliminator picture reminded me of The 1 that was for sale last summer around here. It was sold to a Canadian Fella for the full asking price of $5500. In a way It would have been cool to see the MJs run into the mid 90s but I'm glad theyre as far and few between as they are....i mean look what happened 2 the Rangers and S-10s...lol -
Thats such a sad movie :( ...lol

Theres the OP Speedo on Ebay and I found this 1 earlier, the Seller says it a mechanical hookup. So which 1 should I go for? I have an 88. here's a pic of the other 1 with the new style font. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... &viewitem= and the Orgional http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... K:MEWAX:IT

Squeeky Speedo Cable...?
ComancheKid45 replied to ComancheKid45's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yeah i know.....i guess ill pull out the current cluster and lube up the cable, that way ill atleast get an idea of whats involved back there and if a 88-90 era cluster becomes available ill likely give that a go. I take it lubing/replacing a speedo cable is pretty striaght forward from what ive read :dunno: :smart: -
Squeeky Speedo Cable...?
ComancheKid45 replied to ComancheKid45's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ha Ha Yep thats the 1st thing that came 2 mind......I was with a friend and after it began i said "You know you drive a Jeep when a problem arrises and you already begin on thinking about other things to replace/upgrade while doing the repair" Maybe i should just find a renix full cluster and upgrade that while I'm in there, or am i going overboard...lol  :rotf:
