Under coated the rear frame rails.

Yours will at some point. You have taken on a project not many would have. I would have sold that truck for scrap. I applaud your effort.
-
Sh*t, that means I'll never win! I really like your truck. I think it is one of the best trail rigs on the site. If this does come to be. I would like to see it mixed up every month or so. Maybe a nice trail rig (yours), Daily Driver (Don's), or a project in the making (jbhills) picked. Just not the same style every month.

I feel your pain James. I am now to the point I have to start playing with all that wiring. I am not happy about that at all. I may have to con Bill into coming down and running all the wiring while I drink beer and make fun of him! Bill, I got a cold one for ya buddy. Come on down!
-
No worries. That is what this club is all about. I am glad I could help you out. Now go out and enjoy your truck. I have not driven mine in over a year! Soon though, very soon!
-
You can adjust it. I would buy a new one soon though. That is a sure fire sign that they are on their way out. Just keep the new one in the glove box for when it goes and swap it out.
-
Lay under the steering column and look up. You will see a white box attached to the column with 2 bolts holding it on. There will be a metal rod going into it. That is the ignition switch.
-
Pete talk to your people up there and see if they will put the Thunder Cheif on the list for us.
-
Try adjusting the ignition switch under the steering column. I had the same problem on a 94 XJ. I loosened the 2 bolts and slide it back a hair and it ran like a top.

Thanks James. Your truck is a work of art. I need to get down there soon to see your truck and get those parts, lol! Bill, we got a pretty wet dropping the drivetrain in. The rain held off for the better part of the install though. I am not sure about the differences in the AW4's from year to year. The same with the wiring. I bought a donor 97 XJ to simplify to wiring of my truck. I did not want to try an piece all that crap together and hope I researched it correctly. Your best bet would be to post your questions in the Tech section here and let the masses steer you in the right direction.

I have a 04 WJ, 4X4, with the 4.7 V8. I LOVE MY WJ! I tow everything with it. The 4.7 is an awesome engine for it's size. I have asked more out of that little guy than I should have ever done. If you are serious about getting a WJ here are a few pointers. Stay away from any WJ with the 4.0L. They are slugs with the 6 and get horrible gas mileage. Stay away from 4.7 HO in the Higher end models. They are strong but require high test gas. Also the WJs that the HO comes in have a lot of problems. The best bang for the buck is the Special Edition. They were only offered in 2002 and 2004. You get the look of a limited with out the blend door and heated seat problems. I have great luck finding Jeeps on Craigslist.

We got the engine in today. Not without a fight! I hooked up the cherry picker to get it out of the garage. We (the wife and I) got it just clear of the garage door and the front left caster fell off the cherry picker. GREAT! I have 800 pounds of drivetrain hanging on a broken cherry picker. Looks like the guy that built it only welded the casters on through the 4 bolts holes. He should have bolted it then welded them on. A little redneck engineering and it was mobile again. I pryed the combo up enough to get a couple bricks under it. Then I took my floor jack and strapped it where the caster was supposed to be. Not very smooth rolling but it got the job done. Today was a family event. I aligned the engine mounts, my 11 year old son was under the truck keeping the transfer from swinging, and my wife ran the cherry picker. It took the 3 of us about an hour to get it in the hole. They were a huge help! If anything this old truck is bringing the family closer together. I can't wait until WE build the next one!

I got a little done to the truck this week... FINALLY! I have been crazy busy at work and have had no time to do anything to her. With the help of my lovely wife we got a ton of the nasty stuff done. She has worked her butt off the last few days on the truck. I could not have gotten all this work done this quick without her help. Thanks babe, I love ya! Here is Jen scubbing the old under coating of the floor of the truck. Once the nasty dirty part was done we hit the floor with some 3M ruberized under coating. They turned out pretty nice looking. Then she and I un-bolted the bed, stood it up in the garage, and washed the frame rails to get them ready for under coating. I can't believe she was able to lift the bed of the truck. But, she did it without a problem! I had to have her sit on the rear cross member to get the truck back in the garage. It came up about 3 inches and would not clear the garage door opener to go back in. Tomorrow my son and I will be dropping the drivetrain back into the truck. Here are a few pics of the 97 XJ doors on the truck. It is finally starting to come together!

I did a head gasket and timing belt on a 89 Daytona on the side of the 405 in SoCal. I also replaced the clutch in my 87 Shelby Charger in a CarQuest parking lot. The head was pretty easy to do. The clutch was not so fun. Dodge just does not give you much room under those little cars.

That was my reason for doing the 97+ swap! I sould be stabbing the drivetrain this weekend!

I am actually in Pennsylvania (Uniontown area) at my parents on leave for a week. I have been keeping in touch with my Marines 4-5 times a day. Just to make sure they are ok. One of my Marines lost pretty much everything. He is in good spirits though. Luckily he was single and did not have much and the house was a rental. He managed to save his new JK, computer, and all his guns. His room mate was not so lucky. He lost a Harley that got flooded in the garage. They had renters so they both should be fine in the end.

Since Pete locked the original thread I am going to lock this one too. Please leave any future post on this subject where they belong. Not on this board. -

Alpha, I find it funny that you posted the same exact thing on NAXJA and you just had to come here and do it again. What was the reason for that? Did they not give you your desired answer? The exact same things come out of both boards. NOTHING WHAT SO EVER. IMHO you were just looking for a way to stir up crap. It worked over there and there was no need to bring it to this board. Religion and politics will always get people heated. They have no reason on a Jeep board. The other junk you spouted off about the football, recruiters, and the others are acceptable in the PUB. It is clearly stated in the rules that the God Father put out that politics and religion are frowned upon. But you felt the need to post up on it anyhow... -

I vote axe rhe thread. He started the same crap on NAXJA and the thread went down hill. I see no reason what so ever it needed to be reposted here. I guess he did not get the desire result there or something. :dunno: -

I met her a few years ago at SEMA. She is awesome. We drank a couple beers and chewed the fat for about and hour. Cool chick. She is smoking hot in real life too!

Fellas check out this deal for a 28 volt DeWalt cordless impact. $70 shipped! Only draw back is the battery is not included. They are cheap enough on EBay though. http://auto.tooliday.com/ I bought one and figured I would pass the info on to my brothers.
